I hear rotors again Death song in the sand It’s never a good sign, because There won’t be sleep tonight Maybe the next, and the next While I rewrite dream letters Over and over again Extolling the virtues Of a life I should have saved Should have given my own To protect But was too pinned down, Trying to ignore hot lead round In my shoulder Unable to respond To his pink bubbling chest Praying for those rotors Knowing they wouldn’t come Not in time, never in time Winning meant little, to Watching him melt in my arms.

What can be said to writing like this, Kevin? It is too tragic, too horrible and what happens to the human body in death, too ugly. But what happens to the human spirit in the company of death is the antithesis of this and just as difficult to write about. The honesty, the vulnerability and humility is beautiful.
