The sky in a city where we can't see the stars is hideous just to imagine.
When I went to the countryside and looked at the star-filled sky, I was glad to see that I was alive.
The Stars Moved to
by Choi Paul-Yearn
Where did the stars move from the sky
so as to avoid the luxury dazzling city-lights.
Would the flashes of norae-bang* never be starlights?
The flashes falling from the ceiling with the band sound
of a bar in the city, wouldn't be too.
I guessed that all the stars had left for the countryside
like the people left as tired and hated at the city-lives
Amazing meeting them twinkling vividly in the sky
like a round small well of countryside
above the viliage surrounded by mountains
seemed to be denser with the stars moved to in.
Long ago when I lived in a low-rise apartment in Seoul
a grandmom made a small viliage of various flowers
by sticking branches and wrapping plastic strings
in the empty ground to make the neighbor’s heart warm
At that time I imaged that some of the stars come down
become hollyhock flowers, mirabili jalapa L flowers,
morning glory, cockscomb, and other familiar flowers
blooming to show the grandmom’s beautiful mind.
Watching the many star-flowers in the countryside sky
I feel myself to be a twinkling star on the e arth.
