My Hero My Nanny
“Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the lord my soul to keep, If I shall die before I wake I pray the lord my soul to take”
My hero I met when I was very young,
no one famous, never wrote a speech, never fought in a war, or changed the world,
but she changed my world and knew how to comfort and have lots of fun
My hero worked real hard all her life and went to heaven a widowed wife
My hero was taken by the lord after learning life's lessons with her brain no more
My hero suffered from a terrible disease the monster Alzheimer's brought her to her knees
My hero fought to no avail, but without a cure her life had failed.
My hero's brain very slowly diminished and the Alzheimer's monster, her brain it finished
My hero I love so very much with her snappy personality and so many lives she has touched
My hero so strong is finally resting in peace, so grateful to the lord her soul has been released
No more suffering confusion and silence, My hero in our hearts will always be by us.
This wonderful person who has changed so many lives is my nanny, I was the apple of her eyes.
As with all her other grandchildren she loved so dearly, she cared for us all never being tired or weary
My nanny was so special to us all it is such a shame Alzheimer's made her fall
She tried so hard to hide it from us, she loved us so much she didn’t want to cause a fuss.
Even though my nanny didn’t finish school she knew a little about a lot and was nobody's fool.
She helped us out with out homework each time, and was the first to go to when a school project was assigned.
My nanny will be missed so much by all but when there is finally a cure for Alzheimer's
we will have won the fight she had lost that Sunday night in the fall
Only angels leave the earth on Sunday my mom said and that is the very thing that my nanny had done.
I promised my nanny as she went to sleep each night holding my hand,
I would never leave her I would be there till the end
I like to feel I kept my promise to her as she lay in her bed on the last days of her life
I feel that I helped her leave the earth that night with less fear of what would be on the other side
I sat and told her stories of memories we shared long ago
when she was better and able to show her feelings as she watched us grow.
Today as we morn over the loss of this wonderful person,
I would like you to think of a memory you once shared with her and cherish it forever
Because she is inside of us all and will be there in spirit when we need strength comfort and love
