There's nothing like a book.

HEAR THE WHISPERS

by hdunsirn:Peabody library, baltimore 9.6.14

The peace.

The quiet.

The hush of the hallways.

The smell of books.

The taunt of knowledge.

Sit at a table.

Sit by the stacks.

Sit in the corner.

Absorb the essence.

Hear the whispers.

Of readers.

Of authors.

Read about love.

About adventure.

About history.

About life.

No doubt about it and that pic of a library blew my mind as I have never seen one like it in size.

Thanks everyone. I love to find a small nook for myself for reading, whether I'm in a big or small library. The open space inspires me and the small space cocoons me.

A library is for all those things.

I fear nothing. But I find trying to read in a place like the Peabody library strangely weird, as though this huge hollow space is drawing something out of me in a way that won't allow me to get into a book. That's why I never read in libraries. I always check the books out, take them home, and read in the confines of whatever hovel I happen to be living in at the time.

The important thing is to just read.

Ooooh! What a wonderful poem Susanne, I could feel everything you wrote about. And what a setting for this poem, slap dab in thee middle of the most magnificent library I have ever seen. Your poem did it proud.
