Puppet Master 2 (1991)

I wake from a deep sleep.

I glance to a high shelf

across the room.

The puppet raises its head.

Its head spins around,

slowly coming to a stop.

The mouth opens.

“Time to play,” it says.

I race to the door.

The knob won't turn.

Oh, no.

The doll leans against the door.

A smile on its dark face;

black eyes glistening.

It can’t be.

But it is.

The puppet is alive.

Very effective, Susanne... ...and most apt and timely considering the drawing nigh of Halloween. Love and best wishes,

Ronald, When my daughter was younger, there was a puppet in her room that woke her to nightmares. I had to put it away. It creeped me out.

When we are babies any sudden movement will frighten us and get us crying. When we are older, it takes a bit more, but the sudden movement still applies when it comes to scary poems like yours when our private space becomes invaded by the diabolical.

You labeled it action/thriller, but it could just as well be Halloween.

Things that go bump in the night used to scare me and leave me with much fright. Now it's amusing to laugh and see how these silly monsters used to scare the crap out of me! Still, it was fun; well done!
