a busker is someone who plays an instrument on the street for money...

there’s something in the way
we are

when, usually, i am compelled to talk
of nothing to disarm
the threat of ever
intrusive silence, i can sit with you
and you with

i

sometimes catch
a snippet
of suicidal heaven
encapsulated
in a puddle at my feet

sometimes there’s something in the way

harmonic blues pulse with-
in the footsteps that stalk
the veins that threaten
my heart
                     thump thump

history’s shared
not futures
like second hand smoke
at a bar at 3am
i’m nothing at 4am
i’m still
                     thump thump

only good at passing
out
behind locked doors
                             thump...

he looked
so tired…
with his well-i-have-my-dreams-while-i’m-awake eyes

am i supposed to feel
something? coz he doesn’t
sleep? or i don’t
dream?

something seems so desperate
so wasteful
like lyrics drowning
the handsome soul
of a blues note

there’s something in the way.
we are.

you—a lonely busker in a lonely street
me—a tired worker going home to dreamless sleep

there’s something in the way
we are. strangers
are always just strangers.
                                   ...thump.

A very interesting poem, it seems to say so much, amazing how much of nothing can be between two, when something is in the way, strangers are always just strangers, so true. Thank you for sharing.

I think one of the most impressive displays of busking I have ever seen, was down Hunter St, In the city of Newcastle, NSW about 20 years ago, this guy was sitting down on the pavement, with a Gum leaf in his mouth, playing "Waltzing Matilda"
Never heard a Gum leaf played like that before, in fact, I'd never heard a Gum leaf played at all lol. I went my way, somewhat more enriched by the experience ( I'd had a darn good laugh)
Top write Jaydee,

I love the correlation in these two stanzas. You don't always have to talk to get to know someone. Sometimes you can just be.
Great ambiance.

This poem seems to me almost suicidal. The meeting of two strangers need not be just that. Only if we close our hearts. There are times when we should open up. A fine intricate poem. Victor

Many thoughts, many images connected by the web of dream, by the talent of your pen: well done, Cedric. Enjoy the way you write.

We should once, just for the heck of it go counting how many cobblestones are around Moscow St. Basils Basilica or how many grains of sand are on Sydney's Bondi beach; better than that we can go find us an handsome soul of blue notes.
Yes...we can.

Like the rythem of this one and the way it opens the reader's minds up to possibilities...two strangers in the night, a blues song, a sleepy city...hmmmnnn nice recipe ingrediants for a one night stand or maybe more...
