kids are into cutting; it's the new black
for some the manifestation of pain
is for others the need for attention
however all maintain this brings resolve:
nothing heals like blades on innnocent skin
but always remember: sunsets are free.

but always remember: sunsets are free;

answers merely elicit more questions-
a succession of meaningless chapters
with no plot other than killing off days
kill your heart: divorce, neglect, run from it;
perhaps there's need for healthier past times...

perhaps there's need for healthier past times

it seems insanity's in vogue this week...
she refuses to be beautiful while
i refuse to subscribe to smoke screen
arguments that dim loves luster with slimey lust
or to indulge in more anesthetic

or to indulge in more anesthetic-

the world is flat and all poetry dust
this beautifully cynical outlook
makes god revise the order of service
like epiphanies plagued by long mem'ry
at least there's honesty in ignorance

at least there's honesty in ignorance

paper crowns masquerading as knowledge;
freedom's slavery by another name...
misinterpreted message of autumn:
promise of something lost again coming,
how many more losses can this heart take?

how many more losses can this heart take?

in my faithlessness will you be faithful?
through my confession can you absolve me?
if i reach for the sky and it's not there
your lies unable to comfort me now
maybe the past doesnt hold all the answers...

maybe the past doesnt hold all the answers;

conversations spin on into darkness
like moonbeams illuminating granite
faces that find half the lies to be true :
even psychologists of the stars know
kids are into cutting... its the new black.

Blimey babe, how brilliant are you!
You've almost rendered me speechless.
Metaphors, allegories and a deep understanding of those in the new black....
A kinda didactit write.. Bloody outstanding....

I am in total admiration of this poem, Cedric. It is so highly achieved and polished and yet appears so effortlessly flowing with a natural cadence and energy. I hope it will be published somewhere high profile. It certainly deserves to be, not least for its profound imaging and message. You have managed a very difficult balance between observation and comment, too. I personally find it very difficult to make observations about powerful subjects without coming across as preachy, I feel... or, even worse, judgmental. But the power in your pen here is that you fully allow the reader scope to draw his/her own conclusions, without coercing our feelings. A write of the highest calibre. Much applause! Love, Kate xx

Cutting is not a new art to those of us who have felt the pain of love gone so terribly wrong in our childhoods. Self Injury such as cutting use to be hidden more where now it is perhaps becoming the statement it was always meant to be.

Yes, those scars will never heal either and the answers were never found in searching the past. They were found in the circle of friends I made once I was willing to put my first statement out there for all to see.

It's a good write and about time black is in. Lady J

Cedric, this is such a thought provoking, yet disturbing write. You have done a wonderful job in opening a door, perhaps door number four, the door so few want to go through.

Peace,
Dan

Cedric,

A pointed (no pun intented) condemnation on today's society trying to shock and awe with new levels of horror. Haunting, yet well penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

ooooooooo the subtle.ties of this. . .. such a pointed message [with myriad meanings] but you write it with such tenderness that it doesnt 'hurt' so muhc......so much of honest truth in those gorgeous metaphors and the aesthetics alone....."alone" [wow....the exact image of a girl by herself hurting feeling bleeding epiphanies...] but the aesthetics...the itallicized reiterative dreamed words. . .. .[love the paper crowns stanza the best personally] you have such insight/foresight...
haunting piece~

As each new generation comes along it is like they thrive to outdo the previous for attention. Perhaps all of life is like that we all continue to outdo the routines and familiar that was created by our previous generations. Whetther it be art, music, styles or even love. Ignorance...is only when you close your mind to what is around you.

kids are into cutting; it's the new black

A powerfully sad indictment of modern day life for far too many these days, Cedric.

A sad poem, nothing wrong though, I've written sad poems. One cannot be happy all the time. I've just heard on the news that some lunatic has shot some people in a protestant church. Lunatic!!!! Probably, but like children he wants attention and is into cutting. Victor

WE must KNOW, not let ignorance RULE!
WE must take control!
Great depth HERE on a most intriguing, and sad topic!
to say the least, still happens, for pain to be noticed and then let goooooooo...
So sad, you touched it in your most delicately astute way!
I love how you repeated many lines, leave an echo in our hearts!
I never cut, (well I did use a razor to inscribe a name down below my belly button, the scar is light now, and GET this, it was my 1st boyfr. Paul (he was in the service, in the Navy, and I was 15yrs. WE broke up after 3 yrs. and then I dated, Met a guy name Jim, married him- had 2 daughters, (I'm getting to it, wait a sec, this is true honesty) WE stay married 5 yrs. Divorce, stayed good friends, and got remarried, stayed together 13yrs and then I really KNEW I wasn't in love ANYMORE! My heart told me so! then I date 4 differ. nice guys, but not my type- and I meet Paul, MY SOULMate, what do I have "cut" /scarred for life, Under my belly button (easy to see, if you look close) PAUL- Amazing, but, cutting- I know a few friends, who dared go that route, and I stayed their friend, but I could understand- The deep pain (being SEXually abused, by my DAD (birth) for many years, till I went to the police and turned him IN! and MOM knew and saw many times, was in FULL DEnial and scared of HIM! Anyway-I do understand ( I don't agree) but, it releases the deep centered CORE of the pain! to release, and let some out! It's your Control, of something YOU have/had NO control of - In the beginnning! Sorry, this was long, "C"- but, YOU fully inspired this!WOW!
YOu touched deeply a most disturbing subject, so well needed for most ears and hearts! All I can say is: THANK YOU! Sweet caring heart!

I am speechless... like others can merely add how affected I am by the scalpel of your words. To call this outstanding barely does it justice. WOW.

Ignorance is one of the camouflages our soul wear when home becomes a battlefield and there is not a no-man's-land where find truce.
"...freedom's slavery by another name...missinterpreted message of autumn..." with a gohst reflexion in the mirror when we look back in time.
The disoriented child are still asking why?

Thank you for raising the disturbing issue of 'cutting' Cedric. For children to find 'resolve' in such things is symbolic of the madness they see around them. Us 'adults' need to be the parents of all!

I like the way you tie the last and first sentences of each verse. It brings poetry to the teachings you follow with.

'i refuse to subscribe to smoke screen
arguments that dim loves luster with slimey lust
or to indulge in more anesthetic' ... Fantastic. Love it and totally agree Cedric!

It's all very good! And, true: 'there is honesty in ignorance'.
May we all come out of 'blind ignorance' quick, quick!!
Love, Suzie :-D
