The Market Place

This poem is about the many horrors we have to face every day.

In the market place

They try

To sell you everything

From the raw flesh of meat

To the soft flesh of grapes

Drink and be thin, they say

Eat and touch the lie of satin sheets

This aroma will make you whole

And this book will bring you success

In your house of beautiful comforts

You will find the bliss of blindness

Sleep will be yours, sweet dreams

And you will not hear their cries

Of hunger or the death rattle

Of desperate nights,

When the wind ravages the soul

And the graves give forth their dead

And the nights wail with one

Demonic voice

May the shadow of death

Pass over you tonight

As I tread softly over the graves

Of the millions who died

In the mansions of hate

And disease.

Interesting, Ron, I awoke at 5:00 am this Sunday morning, the best time to find my bliss with two kids, it's dark outside, and your piece has me feeling unsettled and unwilling to open my door to let my cats out, or the demons of unfairness in life, in. I have seen their leering faces in my heart, time and again, and they make me feel tiny with a sense of hopeless anger. May we all find peace one day, on the Spiral of Life.

Erin
