On the dance floor
She waits in her shadows
Standing in stillness
Studying the movement
That beats at her dark door
She shifts one foot
A single step
A hand raises
To touch their motion
Sitara looks for her dance
In my mind's eye. . . . .
She calls the Gods
with her dance
Floating above
the peaks of the Himalayas
Gesturing with the purity of motion
She finds her vision
In each faithful foot fall
Her arms undulate the voice
Of the ancient's poetry
And her body weaves
Through the rhythm of the wind and rain
Her silken threads spun
In gold and purple madness
Call the peacock to her mountain crest
In a jealous rage
. . . . Sitara dances
Sitara cried in her darkness
Searching on the floor
For a dance
I pulled her aside
Pushing back the strands
Of long black hair
that held fast to her tears
