silent pathways

Feather soft fingers brushed my skin

as a manufactured wind wafted by,
and I found myself wondering what happened.
Leaky faucets and peeling paint,
all are hidden from the eye after midnight.

Truth be told...
   they don't matter.

A hammer, a nail, some paint in a pail,
all solutions to life's little problems,
but this painted smile that never fails...
I want to rip it right off of my face
so she can see.

A quick trip through the door
and my feet found cooling asphalt
still trying to hold the warmth of a day long past,
and I can relate.

Closing my eyes, I tried to remember...
horned toads and fire ants, a little boy's treasures,
and enough heaven left unspent for tomorrow.
Life was simple back then,
and love was something to be laughed at,
and dirt was just dirt, yet much more fun.

Happiness was a day free from toil,
careless pup by my side,
spent exploring fields full of glory
that had surely changed more than a million times
since last Tuesday.

Swaying seas full of daisies
beckoned together, as one,
for the daydreaming follies of bliss...
all those dreams were nothing like this...
there's something that I must have missed...

Crack of pain, bit my tongue,
rubbing my head as I sat up
and gazed in wide wonder at the horizon.

Darkened sky, getting blacker,
and the only thing I could see...
Wispy clouds now hiding the moon.

Now I sit, softly weeping,
trying to find the words...

...those few words that just might express...

...how I no longer feel like myself.

A deep poem from the soul, I felt this one. I too have wished I could return to dolls, jack rocks, and all those little girl things when life was less complicated. Well penned and thought provoking.

AS WE PROGRESS DOWN THE PATHWAYS OF OUR LIFE THERE ARE CHANGES ALL AROUND US. VALUES, INTEGRITY, HONESTY 'WE' AND EVERYTHING ELSE CHANGES TOO. THE WAY I FELT 20 YEARS AGO I DO NOT FEEL LIKE THAT TODAY BUT I'M STILL HERE AND I EMBRACE WHAT I HAVE, WHAT I AM FEELING...TODAY. I KNOW TEN YEARS FROM NOW I/MYSELF WILL NOT FEEL LIKE I FEEL TODAY AND THAT'S OKAY, CAUSE I KNOW THOUGH MY PATHWAYS ARE SILENT 'CHANGE' IS ALWAYS GOING ON, BUT GOD IS 'STILL' TOTALLY IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING. A THOUGHT PROVOKING WORK, ENJOYED. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Powerful and emotional. "and dirt was just dirt..."
I have read this poem four times and was caught within its maze each time.

Thanks,

Chris

You have so beautifully described the torment some of us put ourselves through. As I read, I felt as though you had actually experienced what you were writing.

We've got toads and fire ants aplenty, but horny toads seem to be an endangered species around these parts… Suburban Houston.

I've been down that road a time or two.
So well expressed. Keep them flowing.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
