Apple orchard
Apple trees
Autumn scents
In an autumn breeze.
Baskets of apples
Rendered to pies
Baked while rain falls
From teary gray skies.
Meadows like patchwork
Of rust, gold, and brown,
Autumn's so lovely
In her seasonal gown.
An ocean of pumpkins
Symbolic of Halloween,
Sit orange and plump
With not a one lean.
Carved Jack-o-lanterns
Awaiting a "spook" night.
Wickedly grinning
'Neath pools of starlight.
Cornstalks in moonlight
Turkeys, cranberries,
Autumn is staying
'Round all towns and prairies.
A seasonal guest
From county to county
Delivering all goodness
Of autumn's great bounty.
So timely to read Autumn's Bounty. In a garden with pears, plums and apples galore still to be harvested, you must be surprised I am in south west Scotland. What made this a remarkable Autumn poem was that there was no reference to the Fall.
