A lifetime of pain
Dissolves like a flash -
Like a streak of light -
It's gone,
Before it's seen.
Taking the dark with it.
What consternation!
I'm not ready yet
For this sudden aftermath -
This bath of freedom.
I'll take awhile
To look about
To figure out
What happened to me.
I miss my prison
Of night.
The bars
That confined
And kept me safe
From the out there
Where I now find myself
Naked-
Without my shroud
Of despair.

A Portal To Glory
Should Death be arrogant and proud,
Or slink like villains plotting harm?
Should it come openface, shouting alarm,
And crying prophecies out loud?
Is Death the villain, spoiler, thief --
Harbinger of our last Apocalypse?
Is it a messenger whose coming slips
Past pain and opens doors for grief?
No, Death is but an entryway to Life
That holds us true and lights the Way
To horizons far beyond our mortal clay:
It ends for good all ill and strife.
With answers to all our questions immutable,
We'll penetrate, at last, the inscrutable.
I think it is great that you are continuing to promote Addie's work.
Your thoughtful poem reminds me of a thought that I once had about my own chronic pain. But I think the arrival of freedom from pain would not be slow for me to forget its ugly head. Good read, R
