When the world is full of
different-lengthed legs
and tree-tops of bottoms -
a human forestation for
hide and seek
When falling face down in a puddle
means getting a mouthful;
when eyeballing hairy canine muzzles
is met with a stinking rough-tongued lick;
and being so close to the carpet that its
foul dog-reek nearly knocks you out
When Everest is climbing up the sideboard
and Aspen the eighteen inches
down the upturned coffee table;
when the two-foot waves which upend
the unsteady toddler on Weymouth Sands
are tidal Big Ones,
sucking him back to the womb
to start all over again
Why, I wonder, if the Man is formed
by the age of three,
are there not more
Lumber Jack
Dragon Slayers and
Giant Killers
in our Beanstalk world?
Ooooh, this is so good! How did I get on this page? I'm just meandering. You've got such a valid point, and such a vivid poem here.
There are giants in our world with terrible names, like "Greed" and "Selfishness" and "I-Don't-Believe-In-Work". And there are ogresses, just as nasty named "You-Can-Have-It-All-For-Nothing", and "Here, Let-Me-Do-That-For-You". Poor Jack. The ogress should have made him a swing from the vines, and he could have been pumping his little legs back and forth, and up and down while the giants roared... instead of hiding behind the three-foot pot of the potted tree. We study so much child psychology these days, and there are private schools and day-care centers. Where are the bean-stalk schools of today? --Charlie
LOL
I think they are hidden in our inner child
one that is hushed up by responsibilities and mere survival
but those brave shadows of ourselves are always there, lurking
and waiting for the right time to come thru
if we let them
this is enchanting and funny!

Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
The familiar lament of dual-career parents raising children is, "I just can't do it all." The Libra Solution provides an alternative - a more satisfying and sustainable work and life approach - to the overwrought modern day norm.
