Upstairs room
above The Bar
Intimate
We were so close my bare toes
almost brushed against his knee
as I sat in the front row
with my legs crossed
The blues guitarist
gave us his best;
I was transfixed by his
amazing, agile fingers
and beautiful, sensitive hands
I was also in agony -
my neck needed massaging;
His screaming music matched
the mutilated feeling in
my upper vertebrae...
On the electric Fender
he was too Rachmaninov
for a rough neck;
the horny pads of his fingertips
thrummed too tight,
too intense along the length
of the guitar's chordal column.
And he hugged the slim pale body
just too close -
like a bad dose of stomach ache
But the acoustic:
He rocked and gently rolled
her fuller figure love-like
with circular motions,
caressing the strings
and striking them harp-like
to make them sing
He massaged her neck
like stroking that of a
gleaming white swan or
the smooth polished coat of his
gorgeous Black Beauty
* * * *
Acoustic analgesia
anaesthetised my pain...
Killing it softly
with his song,
as Roberta might say

Anywhere you are and all your experiences turn into a journey into wonderland. You can see things in an experience that I stumble blindly by or ignore. That is your edge dear Lady. You turn the ordinary occurrences in life into rare gems of existence. Few can look at life and pull these jewels out of their mind. You have a gift; someday you will arrive at the zenith and look down on us from a mountaintop high in the heavens. Hail Princess of Light!

You write with such skill. This is so descriptive, and I like the word choice you used to describe the music/instruments, really brings the poem alive for the reader, your observations are spot-on.

Oooooooh...Kate. How I would have loved getting a
stiff neck, too, at a BLUES concert!!!
Sounds like, despite it, you thoroughly enjoyed
yourself, as I thoroughly enjoyed this piece of prose.
One thing though. Put an upper case F on fender.
Those guitar people are so fussy about their products!
I know. I have a "Strat."
this one feels so good... especially loved the acoustic verse.

There comes a point in time, when if lucky, a human being may get a chance to live in the times of reading perhaps one great Poet!!! Since joining this site, I do believe I have had the honor and privilege of reading many, but, Poet, you have massaged my soul on more than one occasion with your creative use of stringing and making words together dance off the blank pages!!! Your poetry is an absolute pure joy to read!!! Thank you for sharing it!!!
a fine poem about guitars and guitarists - and the pain in the neck was the grit producing the pearl I guess!

Perhaps a Book of Heavenly Home Cures by Kate is in order.
