Great use of metaphor! And I love your summation. Sometimes we just have to close our eyes and take the plunge. Glad I found your site.

if you can be sure what lies in the deep waters will bring you back to safety then slipping is not a problem. I know what you mean...we question and question this time after time....but, our rock, our safe place.....it is there for now.....its the frightening realization that one day it will have eroded....As we grow older, the rope is still oiled, but it trying to hang on that fades.....Yikes.I am being morbid...was chatting to my hubby last night about the fear of loosing each other....noooo......take away that rope......
Criky kATE, Its Monday morning, I am having a day off.........stop making me think.....great words as always dear.
Masterful use of metaphor, Kate. "Oiled Rope" resonates to remote emotional depths. An enchanting, fine-tuned verse. "Oozing sense, sensuality and spirit"--pleasing use of initial alliteration. Bravo, Poetess! And yes, security is to set adrift in deep waters...

Yes dear Kate you must cast adrift, for the tiny coracle would soon be torn apart when high waves from the stormy seas toss it against the shores. And adrift it will not survive either; the oils that stream from your souls essence make sure of that, don't they? Trust and faith in the future guided by your souls essence will lead you to safety no matter how deep the water or high the waves! So let it be dear Kate, let it be; nothing will happen to hurt of harm you in any way. Not I or anyone else. You llive 'in perpetuum'. Hugs xx Bill

We oiled/greeced our scout masters rope, he climbed it trying to show how not to climb a rope. Wonder if his broken ribs hurt for long?
Love how diametrically you view things with such style.
Kate, let the waters carry you. Bet you'll discover some fabulous poetry in their depth and current. Dawn

Essential Essence
It is simply wonderful when any living being truly knows the essential essence of its soul. And it sounds like you do, Kate.
Don't even try to tie it down, follow your instincts.
