I AM AN AVOCADO
Through forty-seven years
I have remained green;
Though my skin
is tough and wrinkled
it wears a sheen and lustre
that bears the hues of
resiliance and change
My fleshy substance puzzles:
Am I savoury or sweet?
Delicious or non-descript?
And with or without texture?
But the stone
at my centre
is massive;
the heart of me
is huge
and inpenetrable -
out of all proportion
to my fruit
And what is it
that comes from there?
What legacy will remain?
I must take care
what seeds I sow
for whatever comes from
this heart's core
will reproduce
the same
after its kind
And others will reap
the fruit
of my harvest
Let me leave
no bitter taste;
Better sweet avocado
than acid bitter Aloes

Good Grief! This is fantastic, creative, truly imaginative writing, Kate! I could feel my face growing a huge smile, could hear little gasps of air at the cleverness... I found myself anxious to get to my comments, inadequate, I'm afraid, because it's always hard to express real and pure admiration.. and I do admire great creativity. This is it! katy xox.
ye shall know them by their sun protection factor! A poem that makes me think of consequences of our actions and words- the passion fruit is the worst and best! :) k
Kate, this timeless write leaves the reader so many thoughts to ponder over in ones own life. As we become older we finally (hopefully) realize we do reap what we sow, and that the phrase: do on to others and you would want others to do unto you is so very true. You have a rare talent, and you swing a mighty golden quill, which will only make each and every person who is fortunate enough to read your work, a better human being and writer. Thank you for sharing your magical inspiration, Poet.

Great allagory...
This is another of your unique analogies, a very clever poem!
I am a pear myself.

Really enjoyed this - and I should have started using SPF 50 years ago - it's no wonder I was mistaken for the Loch Ness Monster!
excellent read here, I liked the "feel" of this one :)
