Aegean Island peoples:
from generation to generation
warm and hospitable
welcoming
child-loving;
verbally passionate
with music and rhythm
in body and soul
Their beaches still now
occupied;
possessed again
by other Europeans
come once more
to take advantage
of their
generous skies
and life-giving waters;
to reap of their benefits,
to refuel and recharge
What spills upon
these blood-cleansed beaches
now
is nothing more than
German lager or Italian ice-cream,
oozing over comfortable bodies
living in an uneasy peace
Whose only sacrifice today
would be
the cost and effort
of getting here
Island occupation:
the preoccupation
of those now at war
with commitment to duty -
the daily grind
You make an excellent champion for the cause, Kate!
Methinks humanity the world over has let respect
go the way of the dinosaur!Fine write!

This is a really lovely, and unselfish, piece of poetry Kate.
You are so good at giving us vivid images that come from the
heart.
I'm glad I began reading you awhile back, and wish I'd started

daily grind with war is something most of us will never know...I hope. Your poem is tender towards our friends . War and hatred are two words that scare me and words I don't ever want to fully understand. Your poem is due. Thank you!

They are, indeed, a warm hospitable people; and I have enjoyed their hospitality, and graciousness, too.

An exceptionally well-written write, Kate. There are far too many human beings being told when, where, what and how to do it, yet, all these people only want, is to live in peace on their own sacred soil. Excellent work as usual, Poet! Teach those young rascals a few new ideas while you’re there. Enjoy yourself and be well. Take care.
It is always good to get away to some beaches for travelling purpose, just to be away from the everyday's life. I won't think too hard on what has happened there on the beach. It's something that we don't have any control over - the past.
cheap holidays in other people's misery, sang johnny rotton, but in this case i don't think so - it's a shrinking world and thank god for travel, getting away from the over-familiar surroundings - should be a free yearly holiday for every hard-pressed british family; wouldn't cost the earth - have to ask Mr Blair what he thinks. Nice poem kate!
Aw, Buddy, that is so sweet; I misses you, too, but am rockin around the clock at Soul Survivor this week, a hip-hop Christian Youth Festival for about 8,000 13-25yr olds (yeah, I know... how come I get in?! Got my pass stamped by a Higher Authority, I guess!) So will be away pretty much for a while... missin ya'all aleady!! Loadsa blessin, though! Kavortin Kate xx
Kate,
Excellent write. One could never imagine the death and devastation that once touched those beaches by the look of them today. You write with much love and passion. Enjoyed much.
