This may be my last post for a while, folks... my college Tutors insist I stop merely "kicking the stuff out" in favour of some hard revision of existing work!! :(( Life can be tough!
CREATION EVOLVING
Iceland: A fontanelle; the soft-spot on Earth's skull. Malleable crust which pulsates according to the charge of the planet's inner life. Layered ice-sheets which - like the frozen plates that cover my stunned mind - are shifting, freeing, steadily sealing the gap.
One day soon, like Iceland, perhaps I will awake to find a newly-sculpted horizon emerging out of nowhere, changing my perspectives: Land locked, bones sealed; a mature head, at last, on my grown-up body.

This is a stunner! Amazing how you bring out meaning behind the metaphors. Am I to believe that you're not going to compose poetry anymore, after I just discover your amazing talent? That's so cruel.
Write a novel. Think of it as 268 poems. College is good practice. If you can get this many metaphors into two stanzas, you'll have no problem. If a novel seems too intimidating, please write stories. You are gifted, and this is not empty praise. Your tutors remind me of the nuns at St. Patricks, but then revision is good for the soul.

i like! neat voice you have! and interesting concept.
I will simply echo the sentiments of the others who have commented before me Kate, and I wish you the very best and look forward to your return. Thank you so much for your input on my "stuff." Love and peace. Regis
Only you can decide if your writing is great or not, if tutors were so brilliant they wouldn't be tutoring they would not have the time they'd be turning out million dollar best sellers. I think you are a born writer and only writing from the heart will hone the wonderful skills you already possess.
Hugs,

Kate, hon, I think all of us can wish this happens in our
evolution as mature poets. I will miss your posts, but I
may be doing the same thing shortly. This publishing business
is a 24-7, I'm beginning to realize.
Have a sweet little 'learning curve' holiday.
Your writing is evolving all the time, Kate. And these tutors could be a curse - or a help, but I sincerely hope you continue to write from your heart and soul - and not from someone else's idea of what you should write.
PS I had a professional golf tutor once who totally ruined my game!

Have to agree with the lot of them. Katy and Tigger are spot on.
You gotta do what you gotta do, to get that bit of paper, then you can start being yourself again..
Many record producers said the Beatles were no good.
Aw, c'mon you guys!! You are cracking me up here and melting all me icebergy thoughts... there will be another Flood round this place in a minute as the big thaw sets in. Seriously, you're all giving me hot flushes with your kindness and appreciation. I have at least 8 "finished" (ha, ha!) poems to produce for assessment by next Friday; my tutor only likes 3 enough to consider them "worth revising"! QED LOADSA WORK!! I am hopelessly indisciplined when it comes to revision and would far rather "poetic party", but for the next week (probably only!!) I will just have to bite the bullet... but I will actually probably be back tomorrow! Your wonderful encouragement was all I was after, really!! Love y'all! Mega Mwahs. Sincerely, thank you. A bouquet that I hold close to my heart. xx

"kicking the stuff out..." ??? ever heard of 'those who can't, teach'...? Sigh, I keep picturing these marvelous, Burnside monuments poking through your fluffy hair and the tutors AND you pushing them back in... or worse, yanking them out and tossing them in the trash bin. YIKES!! ICK! NOOOOOOOOOO!!
I haven't a leg to stand on, where your life and decisions are concerned... that never stopped me before, why start now? (grin)
But... But... But, Kate, lovely Kate, immensely gifted and cherished Kate... am I wrong? To deny your talents or even to poke around with past perfections, seems unthinkable. The fire burns (puns always intended) so brightly in your poetic belly... and now this?
Sigh... am I selfish? wanting only for you to keep on truckin'? not able to lift my little hand and wave, saying 'you go girl!'? who knows... but I can't make sense of this. To mute the muse? What next? dislodge Everest and move it to Times Square, making it more accessible to the masses? Where would that leave the sweet little monks in their orange (my favorite color!) robes? YES! I'm babbling... I do that when I'm flustered. There's more but I've probably said too much already... I do that too. I think you're swell! (smile) katy xox

Say it isn't so that you will be posting again soon.
I always find that tutors never really know what there talking about you name me one student that studies assidiously...certainly not I. the way to do it kate is to believe you know what your talking about and 9 times out of 10 your usually right. Love the poem by the way i for one will miss your icy pen lol.
Kate,Do you really want a more mature head than you already have?

Keep writing from the heart, not some text book.
I love the stuff you "just kick out." If I were your professor, you'd ACE the course. :)
This is an exceptional write. :) I will miss you, too. :(
