Can't resist this repost today. I am really into "hearing voices" at the moment!! I have been here for about a year, now, and I feel as though I can recognise and know each of yours - and even hear them in my head?! That means that I must also have one of my own, presumably, but have no idea what it might be as I seem to me to be completely all over the shop!! I find all this fascinating... anyway, here it is:
THE VOICE
Is it possible to fall in love
with a Voice?
His cadence and rest;
the height and the breadth;
His breath - in and out.
Can you resist the compelling allure
of his Call?
Magnetising, drawing you
with fine invisible chords
which in some mysterious way
connect you.
Have you heard the sound
of the Beekeeper,
whistling softly to the Hive,
but yet know
that he invites you,
alone, His Queen?
Do you know what it is
for an inaudible Whisper
to govern your thoughts;
transforming your scorching sands
into bubbling pools,
drawing water from the rock?
Have you fallen in love
with a Voice you have never heard,
but which curls invisible fingers
helix around your DNA
and cherishes your uniqueness?
...For there is only One -
And it's His.

hrm, a lot of people interpreted this to mean the Voice of God, but because you said Queen, and because I was just recently finally reunited with my voice for the first time in this lifetime, I interpreted it to be the voice of the One for you

I've known such a Voice the stanza above is describing. It resides within me. I reared my children to listen to The Voice within for it will never lead them astray, tell them a lie or talk smack. THE VOICE is beautifully weaved, Kate.
i think you have received the call, the call to follow His love and path, and that is a special journey. And its good to know he speaks thru the people we know and the poems we read. k
the voice is the fiber of a soul ... its texture, color and fabric are uniquely different ... its tonal quality can be mysterious, definitive or downright seductive ...
I think of a voice as someone's writing style. I can honestly say that I've never imagined the sound of a voice here at AD. I have certainly fallen in love with certain writing styles. This is a very well-written, thought provoking poem, Kate.

Kate this is a kicker, I just loved it. Right off the bat when I read the title Voice, I heard it, and the bee thing too I heard. Yeah, just fascinating stuff, I seldom hear voices myself, but the sensation, the reaching out, the accepting of it, them, an ultra cool and off beat concept, ty hugs Al
I do believe that I have a voice for each poet I read here, Kate. Even when I have to read a boring textbook, I add a droll voice to the words. Perhaps we get so used to being spoken to, that it is automatic for us to apply a voice to text. It would be interesting to learn if someone who had been deaf their entire life and suddenly acquired hearing would say that they did or didn't apply a voice to the written words. Sorry to go on and on here, but your poem got my thoughts spinning. Great Job!

I love the image of the beekeeper that you shared with us. As usual your write is very unique and the answer is yes you too have a voice that we recognize and enjoy.
Kate, I'm not quite sure I agree with the others that you are referring to a higher spiritual power when you speak of the "voice", nor do I believe that you do not have one...Ihave seen and read your voice ever since we first traded words on the den. I do believe this is a highly personel glimpse into your own desires and it is wonderful of you to share such a deep inspiration recieved no doubt from your own muse. Great work, Kate.

if this is the voice of a poet here in AD....I guess I am out of touch, I have words only in this area....no one has touched me on that level.....
but this is also the internet.....and I have felt the voice of friends while chatting.......a bit scarey....and wonderful....and amazing......
