in this poem, you are speaking to the higher manas (oversoul) to liberate you from the sanctuary of playing it safe in the lower manas (desires, passions, fears) so you can move on from your "own Death Valley" into the living oasis of the enlightened being ...
Longing to be held
in the cleft of a rock,
in a heart
that will give me shelter

Dearest Kate,
This poem is simply enchanting. It brought back a distant memory from my childhood. I used to walk through a beautiful field of golden grass where I made many wondrous discovery. It was a place where little creatures roamed wild and free and I spent hours and hours of time exploring with the open-eyed wonder of a child. A fire destroyed this field in but a matter of hours and all that remained was black and charred. So many creatures had been killed and the wild flowers that grew in profusion were also destroyed. I was devastated and walked through the desolation caused by that destructive force feeling glum and depressed. I couldn't face my field of gold for a long time but the next time I ventured out after being cooped up after a week of rain, I was stunned to see the first shoots of green poking through the charred field and was able to observe my own miracle in the making. Somehow even at that young age I knew that what I had witnessed was significant. The resilience of nature taught a great lesson that I still hold in my heart.

In the palm of a 3000 year old mummy there was a seed, and once planted it grew into a beautiful flower. It was a long wait to bloom but worth it. Liked your poem!
