This is an assumed voice - no worries! It has been reworked since yesterday - to shift the emphasis.
SETTLERS
Barefoot in the sitting room,
treading carpet's yielding pile.
Claiming the pool of sunlight,
my dog arcs her spine, nose to tail,
then round she circles, round and round,
her feathered paws stepping
in a cross-hands dance.
At last she sinks, content:
unseen grasses beaten down.
We make our beds by instinct
and are content to lie in habit,
vowing never to change.
Meanwhile, all around,
the grass continues to grow;
The dog can see it
but my eyes are closed -
tight in prayer.
I gained inspiration in this gorgeous write. The mind pictures created with your words are so lovely and the message profound.
Thank you for your wisdom Kate

Gorgeous, Kate. SETTLERS take the reader round and round into a spiral of comforting words of simple yet profound lessons in life.
This poem offers an air of tranquility and acceptance of life as it surrounds us. We all are living the life we have chosen for ourselves and those who find peace are those who understand this.
Take care,
Sherry
Soulful and subtle write Kate...change is such a vital necessity,
yet we are creatures of habit and tend to nuzzle into our comforts instead of taking on a new challenge;-) Always thought provoking
work from you, and always beautifully done...
Oh how I envy you, my carpet smells like a petshop! Due to two smelly dogs, who were out in the mud and rain. I would love to be able to float into prayer and relaxation here.
We all find a place to contemplate, settle and, all to often, never leave its' comfort. However, others--the restless, the wanderers--who all to often leave without a site in mind, leave and some remain forever lost. No wonder we are, by nature, reluctant to leave!
Thought-provoking poem :)... well penned :)!

Settler. Indigestion? Take two, and remove your clothes behind the transparent screen..
Quite an interesting poetic tale, Kate - and glad to hear that it's 'an assumed voice.' Otherwise Little Andy and I would have to get our lawn mowers out to rescue you!
