Hmmm... wonder what has inspired me to revisit this piece today?!! Also in remembrance of absent friends: AJT left a note saying "recycle this" a short while ago... Hey, Andy! Hope it's a fine morning in NYC today - "Good Mornin', America!!" (in my best Eddie Murphy voice...) K xx

U-BOAT BLUES

Lives lived out in
swaddled watery isolation,
inhabiting hidden depths
that are sensorially interpreted;
felt through antennae
of obscured sight and sound.

Slowly bleep, bleeping,
we detect each other's existence;
we attract and then attune to
The U-Boat Blues...

Aligning my poetic mirrors
I look inwards and project upwards,
bouncing my signal
off some mysterious
and unknown reflector,
aiming to cast my shadow
on your soul.

Only then will my moody
U-Boat Blues
be transposed into a brightening
Rainbow Refrain,
sung by other harmonic voices:

A resurgent Dawn Chorus
that surpasses
the lone Last Post
of a solitary night's watch.

Dearest Kate,
I haven't been very active on AD for a while but I had to pop in and see what one of my favourite poets was up to. Your imagination always fills me with awe. I don't know where you draw all these wonderful ideas. This is just so unique. You certainly cast your 'shadow' upon this soul...except that your shadow is as brilliant as the brightest rainbow. Lovely work!

Brilliant metaphor here! Yes, its the connections we make with others that make the lonely journey of the scribe worthwhile. Thank you, Kate... (This would make a great blues song, maybe I'll give it a go)

Kate,

Sensational write of the highest poetic magnitude ... a grand tribute to those who served beneath the waves, and to their dogs - the "sub-woofers!"

Blessings,

God bless the sub mariners and your tribute to them. It's a beautiful spring day here in New York but rain is expected in a day or two. Splendid write as always.

Another truly captivating and thought provoking write, Kate.

And as far as Little Andy goes, he's probably got those dreaded Jet Lag Blues right about now.
