Another trip to The British Museum tomorrow, folks... back with that old Sphinx again!! Should be interesting, given my current frame of mind! :)) K xx

HOMO POETICUS

Natural cross dressers,
poets wear another's feelings,
inhabit each other's jeans,
try to walk a mile
in someone else's shoes.

They apply each other's make-up
from diverse emotional palettes;

Make considered choices:
blushing each other's cheekbones;
glossing someone else's lips;
shadowing another's eyes.

Loud and proudly they emerge,
come out in shared sublime:

Mouths seared with words that are read;
hearts and secret skin tattooed
with brushings of a mutual kiss.

Majestic transvestic.

thought-provoking! The best writers do need to understand the male and female aspects of life, and having the sense to drop old gender role strictures probably gives an author an added dimension. I was listening to Lord of the Rings recently and wondered how it would be as a monty python film, and whether Terry Pratchett and his hobbits that don't like beer actually, would make out in Tolkien's sword and sorcery universe. Ah, the times they are a-changing! k

I don't think you'd fit in my jeans Kate...lol...me being skinny and everything (duck's to avoid hand/fist after implications in last comment)...I get very cross when I'm dressing. Excellent metaphor Kate, as always your pen flows with 'majestic transvestic ink'.

This seems to be the day for thought provoking writes. This is a good verse Kate although I think we sometimes as writers see our fellow poets work and think of how we would do it diffrent but I think we all for the most part value our originality to much to come out as writer transvestites. Sure does make one ponder the issue though.

You have certainly covered this subject well, Kate. We do seem to take on the emotions and life situations of others in our writings. We are like a huge vortex into which all emotion and feeling gets sucked into us and spilled out onto the page from our magic pens. Very nice write, I love this one.
Take care,
Sherry

fantastic concept and metaphor ... as poets we must encompass everything so we know of all life experience ...

You write metaphor so well, Kate. Yes, we are actors on a stage framed by brilliant white light. Our audience, for the most part, is silent. Our hearts the critic. Our souls the director. (I just received a package from The British Museum. The shop there is wonderful!)

Hey, Henry!! Is this TRULY embarrassing?! I think it's rather beautiful: that sense of the unisex; the mutually shared feelings of male/female and celebrating the fact that, contrary to our perceptions, there's a lot more that unites us, spiritually and emotionally, than separates us... and it's not just about poets, but about the whole human demograph that poets seek to identify with. But perhaps I'm just a few chromosomes short of a picnic somewhere. :)) And I shouldn't be here but at the gym... in my unisex lycra!! Seeyalader xx

Good Grief! Every day, somewhere (often, in AD), a poet puts pen to paper and up comes a version of what we writers do.

Then, THIS! O, Klever Kate, your layered look at this was like a brain massage: the writing itself is sheer em... hmmm... well, POETRY! BUT... what you've expressed, what it is we do, is a first for me. It made me giddy to feel an entirely new view of writing poetry float over my recently-asleep brain. (It's 9 a.m.)

I grin a lot but it takes something like this to squeek aloud, in an empty room, at this hour of the day, and not worry that I've finally gone over the edge. (grin) I'm keeping this one. I have to... it was a really important SQUEEK! Keep em Koming, Kurly Kate, my lovely. inKurable katy xoxoxoxox

You have painted an artist very well. Yes all us poets are artists painting pictures on readers minds with our words. Well done Kate
