Bless you, Josh: "But thy eternal summer shall not fade, Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st, Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st; So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee." Sonnet 18
SWANSONG
Caught, you and I,
in pull and draw
of Stratford's rolling tides.
Our words remain
(like unerased scribbles)
the fluid tips on rippling waves;
the flotsam borne on
so much heavy water.
And here, now, there's a flood
that mingles salt and fresh
like blood upon my page...
Our friendship was a tether
which scarce could pin a lark;
sweet daisy-chain of poems
linked laughing, bardolatrous,
that lightly encircled
our overbent brows.
You are the early nascent Swan
that's steadily taking flight,
dark's grey plumage
turned to white.
And as your spread wings
eclipse the dawn
this broken heart's
released to sing:
Rising to the tuneful notes,
the triumph of your final song.
Kate, A most wonderous poem and simply beautiful all by itself!
Joshua is smiling down on you, right now! How elegant!
Keep the enchanting words coming!
Love, friends forever,
Rebecca P Lang
This beautiful poem brought tears to my eyes. I honestly believe you could take your place among the greats in poetry. Elizabeth Barret Browning would be in envy of your gift. If you are not already published, you better think about it. I will be the first in a long line to purchase your book.
A loving hug to you...

this is so gentle and kind Kate, I wonder if his parents knew he wrote...........
maybe you can send them something, like a collection of your letters to each other, I don't know...........
very touching.......you speak........always......always.......from a pure perspective, and that is just you, no wonder everyone loves you!

What an awesome tribute Kate!
I'm sure that he hears your song
just as you have heard his.
This is the best tribute poem I have ever read, Kate. What warmth you have laced into these verses and you have portrayed a feeling of admiration for the one who has departed. Sadness is left to the living, as those who pass to the eternal gardens of heaven have no need for sorrow.
Take care,
Sherry
Enjoyed this one immensely, Kate. Lovely lines, wonderful flow, enchanting from start to finish despite its bittersweetness. Sounds fantastic aloud. ~~Nordette

This does nip the aorta with its poignancy, Kate.
How lovely!
Why is it that heartaches result in prize verse for poets?
{Or is it the age-old theory that "isn't it wonderful thorns
produce such beautiful roses?"
Hmmm...you're inspiring me again, dear heart.
Oh, how beautiful! I'm certain that Joshua is looking over your shoulder and smiling, Kate, that he is the inspiration for such verse. Outstanding. The imagery and metaphor superb!
