Bless you, people, for your solidarity and support in the face of London's grief today. I have no words, no anger at the moment - only sadness that I have no feeling left to express what you all do so admirably. Maybe as the stories continue to unfold and I hear more of the personal encounters of this ongoing tragedy - which started this afternoon in a shop locally with the owners trying to get through to London suppliers and being greeted with bad news... only the beginning, I'm afraid, as so many of us live our lives between "Town" and country. I'll keep you posted as to what I hear. This is a manuscript piece about the shadow of death, and goes out with my love, empathy and prayers to all those who are frozen beneath this shadow of grief this evening - in London and in the many other stricken parts of our beautiful planet and global community. And may God graciously grant us the thwarting of follow-up campaigns. I know He hears us as we cry...

SENSELESS

A taxi with blackened windows comes to a slow halt
outside my neighbours' house. Four of the five family
members alight, heads bowed, and go indoors.
Something inside of me dislocates. I hear again the
kittens my mother drowned at birth. I stare at the
calendar on the wall. No such thing as time.
Yesterday is spent, no longer smelling of anticipation.
and plans that lie ahead seem like mirages, things
seen in the distance but never arrived at. The kitchen
clock has stopped. There is only now, this moment
waiting for what has already taken place. And all I feel
is numb.

Dear Kate,

My heart cries and aches with grief, as I think of the pain and trauma that families and friends of the victims must be suffering. My prayers and thoughts sent across the ocean on wings of peace and love. Stay strong Kate.

So awful, and thursday a couple of weeks before we were up there.
My bruvs use the Aldergate train. One was turned back at east croyden, he was late due to his daughter being ill.

Their intention I feel was to bring an anti Islam hatred. But we ain't that daft.

The perpatraitors have no faith, but life carries on as usual, holding no malace towards any faith.

But pray for our police, Blair, all involved.

We have a unique mix of cultures. In all walks, doctors etc.

Terrorists would only win, if our cultures clashed, but instead it has brought us all even closer.

Some good has grown out of that dark hour.

Kate, first please know my heart aches for the people of England. I have been off on a rare vacation in TX this last week with my son, who loves all things British. I have told him all I remember of London and regaled him with stories of the Tube, which I rode at about his age. We have dreamed of coming to England one day. I, too, thought of you and other Englanders soon after hearing the news. Days later, this poem, seized up all the sadness in me over this and similar events in our world. Your line "I hear again..." stopped me cold. It was such an intimate image and yet so universal in its emotional truth. "There is only now..." The reliving of the nightmare in ever-fresh images and the ripple effect of tragedies such as this is perhaps the most difficult to bear, I think. May green hope rise up to be met by rain on England's field of firm resolve. God bless, Dawn

Kate, your words touched me so very deeply. Your shock, your grief, your confusion, your sorrow, your anger (even though you say you feel no anger), your impotence in the face of such abject evil come through your words like like water through a sieve.

Having gone through our own 9-11 horror I know how your heart bleeds. Mine is bleeding with you.

... I am so glad to hear that, Paul... I mean, that I am not alone in feeling speechless: a new experience for us both and I would love to chat sometime about all of this. I have been feeling a total failure here - I thought poets were supposed to be "a voice in the wilderness" at such times, speaking into the moment and all that. Makes me realise what an incredible guy Bhuwan is, writing as he does out of living in the midst of war and the permanent threat to his vulnerable household. Perhaps silence is, after all, a sign of the gravity and profundity of the situation for us and a mark of deep respect at the moment for those who suffer and for whom mere words are not enough. Bless you - and will miss you all as I am pretty much away now for at least a couple of weeks. Stay safe and be well! LOL Kate xx

I am lost for words personally Kate, which is something new for me, having wittnessed firsthand acts of terror, all I can do is add my thoughts to those who have suffered and the families of those who have lost loved ones. And add that we will not be cowed by murderous cowards.

You are in shock, Kate; the bottom has just been ripped out from your world. Your people have been raped of their innocence and many have been senselessly killed. Expect no remorse for the actions of those faceless cowards who planned this murder, for they believe that what they have done is right and that it pleases their God. Terrorism is a sickness and needs to be eradicated from our planet. Excellent offering, Kate, I can feel your heart and I can identify with what you are going through for it is how I felt on 9-11. My heart goes out to you and to all the people of England who hoped that their lives and homes would be safe from these vermin we call terrorists.
Take care,
Sherry

By now you know that you, Paul, Andy, Ian, and both Peters, as well as the other Brits running about here are favorites of mine. But my heart would go out to any country hit by such violence and insanity. I'm glad to know you are well, Kate. And while I'm not a big fan of many of President Bush's comments, I agree without question with what he said today, that the heart that bombed London is evil. Your friend and much love, Nordette.

Sweat Kate, my heart and soul go out to you and England in your hours of sadness and mourning that lay ahead. War is war and though we may not agree with it we can at least understand it. These barbaic acts on innocent men, women and children is totally to hard to understand and hate and anger surge in all of us because of these cowardly acts. An emotional write that touches all of us.

Kate, following our own devestation on 9/11, we Americans stood in complete solidarity behind our leadership, expecting them to stop at nothing to bring down the factions that presumed to destroy our beloved country. That's what they promised us and we were alllll of one mind... all behind Mr. Bush.

Instead, we were told lies. What happened in London today is the result. Ossama bin Laden and Al Qaida are thriving because, in Mr. Bush's own words, 'I don't think about them much... ' (Don't let anyone tell you he didn't say that... I watched him again and again, including again today).

I pray that you will all be vigilant and active in the fight ahead... and that your leaders will go after those who are guilty for the senseless acts of today... instead of ignoring the guilty, leaving them to attack again and again and again. katy xox

p.s. I'm absolutely furious and scared to death! This would never have happened if Bush had pursued and taken down bin Laden... more will die because of it, too. My god, how many have to die before everyone wakes up? IRAQ DID NOT CAUSE 9/11... OR today's attacks... I wish you could be on this side of the Atlantic... Americans have HAD IT! And I'm in constant tears again, knowing that even this tragedy will be twisted to suit politics, not people. Sigh.

Please stay safe, me little Brit. The world is a better place with you in it.

England was my home for four years and London among my favorite cities in the world. At some point in the course of our human spiritual evolution we will wake up on whatever side of the ideological fence or geographical ocean we happen to reside on and realize that violence against human beings, no matter how we choose to justify it, contributes nothing of value to our lives and cannot serve as a foundation for a better world. Prayers for those who lost family members friends today, or whose loved ones were injured by the bombings in any way. Tears for the ignorance that yet remains in this world and perpetuates such "senseless" extremism. Please be safe. With love,
