Anyone fancy a Ghazal?! :)) I would love to give it a try, but am a bit frazzled and can't get my brain round it... apparently it is a Persian/Arabic form of not more than 18 couplets on a Love or Bacchanalian theme: probably made me think of "guzzle", and I sure could do with a drink atdemo... Lines 1 and 2 rhyme and all even lines after that. Shee, if you're out there, I KNOW you'd be up for it! :)) This isn't one, but I'm wonderin if I can convert... K xx

FREE RADICAL

Today, I am homeless:
the spectre of a gentle breeze
through decorative stone arches,
the shape of blown sand on the streets.

Wooing myself, teasing me out,
I find my ghost-town emptied.

Salt-taste of blood that’s seeping,
I am the kiss and bite of life
that runs down every highway.

Subterranean, oceanic;
my bones are ivory sculpted shells
clattering with aliveness;
my fleshy fingers fill and swell
in search of inner knowledge.

My liquid tongues are everywhere –
forced between hard skull of mind
and softly-yielding bed of heart…

Tonight, love pulls me all together --
a writhing catch in a net;
my face spills silver onto pillow,
a treasure-house of dusk.

Singing life a lullaby
in harmonies of light and shade,
I know that I am home again.

Your language is a pure joy to read. The metaphor rolls on the tongue like soft, salt-water taffy that pulls the reader into places of
recognition. Emotion lives and breathes. Brava, Kate!!

Deep and beautiful. I particularly like what this line does: I am the kiss and bite of life that runs down every highway.

What is a "Ghazal?! :)) "...not a clue....but if this is what you call it I say it's done to perfetion!!

Ps: I recited "Constant Sorrows"...might be up soon...a true tongue twist for me..but who does not know will not know if I used the wrong words anyways!! Ha-ha-ha!!

This made me think of C.S.Lewis at start. Made me think of Charn..

Huda will rise to that challenge easily.
As always perfectly formed. With those intelligent clever vivid images.

This poem is so emotive and beautiful, Kate. It just flows like honey from a warm dripper onto the page and into the soul. Excelent job. I may try to write a Ghazel for your challenge, I will see if I have time today or this weekend. I don't think I have ever written a couplet so this will be a good challenge for me if I can do it.
Take care,
Sherry
