Written hastily over a hospital supper this evening, this is more an explanation for my continued absence than a poem. Mum is waaaaay over into borrowed time, but I am still spending all waking hours at the hospital as her life continues to hang by a thread... Thanks for all love and prayers, People. All feathered thoughts welcome... xxxxxxxxxoooooxxxxxx K

THE EXCHANGE

From Venezuelan sunshine
we flew, over 30 hours delayed,
descending into Gatwick
from above sun-drenched
snowfields of cloud
where I wished I could
get out, walk and breathe
the fresh, clean air.

Blind at 560 miles per hour
we came down through blankets of mist,
"like faith", I thought,
rushing headlong at speed
into who knows what.

Back here, you were preparing to make
The Divine Exchange;
with just hours left
you counted us later round your bed:
"All home!" you said,
ready for your own depart...

Mum, you have known
both sunshine and rain;
you have lived through
clouds and storm,
but always you have turned
your face to sun,
tilted it upwards
to smiles and radiance,
never one to sing the blues.

And I will think of you now,
your journey of faith through the skies,
walking in peace -
living life above the clouds
and not beneath.

You are truly impressive through this change of life. I can tell from your writing that although you do not wish to lose her you have already begun the process of letting go so that she enjoy her new form. My thoughts and prayers are with your mother and you.

I have not much more to add dear Kate, the board has pretty much said it for me, just to let you know you my thoughts (suitably feathered) are with you.

I know you must be exhausted. But God will give you a wonderful time of rest after she is gone. And to know for sure that she is with Jesus, is the most wonderful gift. Your writing is wonderful as always. Love, Janet

When the moment feels right to her, she will begin her journey, Kate. It is not fear that keeps her here; it is clinging onto the love of each of you as long as she possibly can. Death, like birth, comes when the time is right and most certainly will come. There is preparation for both journeys, so embrace the time you have left together then kiss her farewell on her ascension onto her next adventure.
Take care,
Sherry

Such power in acceptance. You know Susan say's so much.
A tribute both for you, and your mother who is planing on soon moving home. Not a pie in the sky home, but to the home we know Jesus has built. God bless.

This is incredible value in passing. It is positive with the strength and support for your dearest Mother and your family. You've given this emotional time the respect and quiet peace that is needed.
My prayers are with you all and blessings for peace.

Kate,

Can anyone be truly ready? I think not. We are ready for the exchange, but are never willing to let go, and we won't, not without a fight...honey, you are in my prayers at this difficult time. A powerfully written, emotional piece that resonates deep within, having lost my own mother 16 years ago...I miss her, still.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

If you need ANYthing, please let me know--I'm here for you.

As always, you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time in your life. You will be in my prayers; God be with you, and may He give you comfort and peace that passes all understanding! Very well done!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in America, Karen Lynn in Texas. :( >tears <

By the light of your grace-filled words you seem ready for this, Kate, as ready as any of us can be for the passing of a mother who has been a mother. You have my prayers because in truth we are never fully prepared, are we? We know what we know intellectually, that the right time has come, but then there's the rip in the gut. Even if good-bye cuts only for a moment before immeasurable peace sets in, we still feel its slicing because change, good or bad, is always tinged with some pain.

Still, in God, Kate, you are strong and blessed. We've seen your sublime strength over this past year. You are a warrior! God's grace to you and to your mother. :-) In the Alpha and Omega, peace! ~~Nordette

May the Lord welcome your mother into the paradise He has prepared for her and any pain she may have will be short lived compared to an eternity of peace and happiness with God.

At times like these, pending the passing of a family member, it's the arrangement of your mind's closet, the cleanliness of your mind's room, and the etiquette of your mind's table manners. The details of life wash upon us because we want to live it so bad while loved ones are being called away for The Divine Exchange. The importance of little things hit closer to home and we take inventory. Count me there, Kate, in spirit. Blessed Be.

Sweet Kate, so sorry to hear about your Mom and my thoughts and love go out to you in your time of trials. I am glad to hear though that you are back safe and sound and know your friends here on the den are thinking about you and sending you well wishes and yes feathered thoughts for the angels that no doubt linger close by your mother's bed to comfort and console her and if the time arrrives guide her gently to the gates of heaven. Hang in there Sweet Kate and know we are all here for you.

Hugs,
Felix

Glad y'all are back home. Your poem speaks volumes, directed toward your love of mother and mortality for each of us. These words are beautifully crafted, so I'm glad you didn't stop and "compose" along the way. As you know, this is a subjectin which no one holds answers. You seem to be handling it very well, step by step, and one can do no more. Blessings. Do keep us posted. - Bill
