Am kinda better-ish... still in need of the comfort blanket of nostalgia! :)) Thank you for all good wishes and prayers. Am taking Earl Grey intravenously... LOL K xx
1500s
The time no longer exists when shadows
from the church spire crawl into the crusted knot
of an old oak to sleep, or the sun strikes the dial
just so.
Lanes, thick with warm musk of mottled hide,
are dry of milk sprinkled from heavy teats,
and gone is the barn where a needlepoint of swallows
wove its tapestries through gloom-laden rafters.
Beyond the creaking gates of churchyards and between
incessant openings and slamming shut of doors,
three o’clock, that time called tea, is missing.
Like unfrocked priests, ducks are denied daily
their trim shavings of cake and bread.
Having to spend a great deal of my work time proof editing audio books for Blackstone, I often am involved with history books. Here, you've painted a most revealing piece of originality when it comes to picturing the past and that which is only available to us through the printed page. Thank you for offering such insight. Kudos.
I have MISSED you! Wow... I *love* lines like: "...a needlepoint of swallows wove its tapestries through gloom-laden rafters. " - I guess the 'gloom' thing fits me at the moment; but the perfection of your particular wording is inherently vivid, to say the least! -- Jeff Mason
Kate, rites of passage are a unique part of who we are - this is just as delicious to me as the aromatics of the Earl Gray wafting into my nostrils from a piping cup - our links to the past, distant especially, are centuries of soft woolen blankets encoded with tradition to wrap our longing souls in - your words are ripe and rich with the emotions of historic links - I wish you love and peace my dear friend - Jon Michael
Still here, still listening, and still loving what I read. When will you let me publish a book of your exquisite poetry? lol Hope you are feeling better.
Jim
Kate, this is mesmerizing...your command of words and imagery resounds. I am in awe. I'm into the grenn tea phase, perhaps I should make a date with Earl.
Love,
Taylor

A gorgeous nostalgic write, Dear Kate! Hope Mr. Grey is helping you to feel better.
This takes me back, Kate, to the Domesday thatched cottage in Devon, and one of your very first poems about the walls receiving the im print of all the resident writers. Fine mottled, descriptive
landscape writing that conjures up the best of England.

When we lose our heritage, we lose ourselves.
An amazing poem about a time that was and that which we should try to hold dear..
Hmmn Sweet Kate, this one shoots one back into a different time and place with vivid images and smooth lines. Well done. Sorry to hear you were sick, glad that you are now feeling better and glad I am back to read one of my favorite poetess'es.
Your pencil sharp mind and intellect have come up with the goods again, in this austere and spartan write, that encomapsses the Golden Age of Ideals and Tolerance...
Your 1500 is a privileged peek into bits of the past, seen only by a sharp mind of deep talent. Other than that, it is rather mundane and boring. But in its essence and fullness, it is a magic capet to times not recalled for the good in them. You have sprinkled sunlight in places where it never flickered before. I thank you for something extraordinary in my life.
Watch that Earl Grey. Without a Rx, it could be hazordous to your composing....
This is nostalgic but much more than that it is a web of magical shadows and mystery. You have an ease about your pens that enables the reader to browse around with the visions you give us.

A people’s heart can be found in their poetic words. In history men and women have stood firmly upon their soapboxes and street corners, rallying the deepest beliefs of people to rise up and be heard. The poetrypages.com has offered that voice a new
