INCOGNITO

The frail mewing of the stray
whose soft shadow lingers
outside your garden gate

the whispered name that whistles
round each beckoning street corner

the unyielded shoulder brushed against
in the downtown shopping mall

the foot stuck out to trip you up
whilst running for that train

the churning wake of a ferry,
whose esoteric inscription
dovetails your fleeting thoughts
as it passes by:

the distinguishing marks,
the unflinching gaze
of the you who is as yet unknown,

saying “here am I”;
saying “when are you going
to find me?”

and “let’s get out of here”

A disguise cleverly donned in engaging, mysterious verse; gotta love it, as Jerry says. Well done, Kate!

When I can get through that sneaky disguise Mizz MP LOL. How can one expect to find one, when one is hidden thus? ...but seriously, tis' yet another superbly vivid picture you paint dear Lady.

Yes, when??? I believe is Turner for 'when are we having another get together?' lol

Sometimes we seem to hide from the world as we crave for the world to find us. Strange beings are we. Great poem. :-)

isn't the unknown so intriguing and mysterious ... its like being in a dream where we cannot see the face or touch the body we are embracing ... it's a bit frustrating even as we awaken from the dream and the emotional aftermath still lingers ... great poem, Kate ...

Haha. This reminds me of a poem in one of my old college poetry books called "Paranoia." Love that poem but haven't been able to find it anywhere and no longer have the book. Love this gem too, Kate. BTW, your new bio pic makes me want to be wherever that is you are. :-) ~~Nordette

Ever unfolding, we are a mystery even to ourselves and the thought of being found out is both a desire and our greatest fear. There is much truth in the line "always keep him guessing" I believe, and intrigue often seems to be the greatest fodder for lust. Your words are both mysterious and out-there as is all of life. Outstanding poem, I will be saving this to read again and again.

Take care,

Sherry

I may have used this analogy before and if I have forgive me. I know that I've felt this many times when I've read your works. Do you remember in Charlie and the Chocolate factory how Charlie peels back the wrapper on the chocolate just a tiny bit and then bites off a piece of chocolate and lets it melt on his tongue? The way Dahl described this was so effective I immediately had a bad chocolate craving. I am reminded of this feeling whenever I read your work. I feel like I want to savour it as he did the chocolate. I too am starving but not for confectionary but for words...your words are food for the soul. Thank you as always!

I'm reminded of an old song...The Girl Wo Used to be Me...and the concept of the girl who has yet to be. I believe there exists a little bit of both in here and I'm looking for her.

Of all the subtle and not-so-subtle wonders and probabilities in the world, few may be as thrilling as discovering "the you who is as yet unknown" and allowing that mystery to lead the way.

This is a wonderful, yet mysterious write. As I read the lines you described how I felt just before I went back to college. I had married very young, had a family very young, I continued to be a wife and a mother, I had worked for others...yet I had never really done anything for me. I always wanted to be a mother and wife, but I also deep within I wanted to be a teacher and a writer. I didn't really express this to anyone, other than the Lord. My children were near grown, one married the other engaged. My husband worked seventy hours a week...I went to church on Wednesday and Sunday...yet everywhere I could hear my own desire beckoning me to do what was deep within my heart...and I did it. I returned to school, earned my degree, began teaching and continued to write. Years later I still love both. I am so glad that I responded to the voice within me, my spirit my destiny. I loved this poem, maybe if I had read this earlier I wouldn't have waited as long as I did...who knows. I wrote my poem "A Captive Spirit" when I was struggling with my decision. This was very inspiring, and beautiful indeed, my spirit connected with this write more than any I have read in a while.
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling
