... Rosy specs on tomorrow, I PROMISE!! :)) I had intended to work this into 26 couplets, to represent the pairs of chromosomes in a "normal" human being. But.. naaaaaaah. For some strange reason, it reminds me of one of me fav Nick Cage films: ConAir. D'ya know it? LOL K xx

FOR HIM WHO RAILS AT BEAUTY

I curse the sun making its pale apology, birthing this sonovabitch day; its watery face sullen as it finds me beside a grave, asking questions of bleached bones. I’ve left my baby sick at home, sweating in fevered sleep. I deny her her medicine – better she be unconscious now.

No birds. The air is stifled, the streets devoid of rush-hour traffic. Only the postman goes about his business, still hoping to deliver some good news – and the unflinching businessman, his white knuckles grasping tight the handle of his briefcase.

The hard-working shopkeeper boards up his windows, barricades his door. The farmer lies naked and drunk in the barn, draped among his cattle. Hospitals empty.

There are no morning papers. The presses have become extinct, their ink run dry. Nothing left to say. The trees are spared, but their thoughts are mute. Not so much as a leaf whispers.

Only the pimps and prostitutes work overtime. Women in labour cross their legs and bite the hands of those who would relieve them. They would rather split their guts than give life to this. The terminally sick are partying, their moon-faces gurgle like drowning fish.

Air traffic is suspended, the seas stilled. Rail and roads reabsorb their human constipation. Hopeless pods, pools and cells of people chew the fat, mortally congealed, like cold blood.

Quiet is already here: just heavy breathing in corners, gentle sobbing of lost children and smothered tears of helpless adults, their moans buried in another’s chest or shoulders.

I want to be everywhere and nowhere; part of a crowd and alone; to remember and forget. I want to punch out the lights of that life-long pain-in-the-ass and make love to this perfect unknown stranger.

Now, all time has ceased; the moment is upon us: 11.17 GMT. A day unlike any other. This day…

Just as he said it would, the winds gather above the silent-weeping earth, snuffing the light that’s become grey. The perverse seed, the longed-for hope of him who rails at beauty, births its ugly fruit, this heinous global death.

The sky is falling and the godless one dies grinning, marvelling at the wonder of his most creative destruction. His immortality assured.

You do dark very well, Kate. But this reminds me more of Stephen King, then Nick Cage in ConAir!

Kate, Amazingly and profoundly powerful...I had to go back and read it aloud listening as I read to all the story line and the sounds which even rival the imagery. Stunning write, dear one....the end of the world as some know it...

Wot bout Il Postino??? can't wait, can't wait.

I just love your writing, it captures the reader, into Kates world, and leaves one wanting it to go on.
Perfectly executed in disriptions, creativity and I can hear your well-to-do clear english voice in this one...

good grief. you outdo yourself every time. reading this, I got chills. had this picture of you sittin' somewhere in America with a bunch of us would-be disciples of England's poet-extaordinaire rapt with attention listening to you decipher the depths of your verse and lift us with lines of beauty. love and light, and poetry always, Dawn

Wow sweet Kate, I can't believe the deep intensity and forboding negativity of this write, down right scary, but that is another example of your flexability. For someone of such warm heart this must have been a difficult write to produce but you did it so well.
I am impressed. Hugs.

The destruction of beauty is an ugly thing. There is a prophesy that earth will be destroyed, but only because it would have lost its beauty. Your poem is powerful, apocalyptic in its feeling. Victor

Outstanding Kate! Boy I do hope tomorrow is not as dark...this one write will be enough to imagine for awhile! The darkness shivers me...
In the meantime, I'm heading up to the neighbors barn to drink some Rusty Millers and drape some cattle LOL!
Love and Peace~

Phenomenal writing! What a great piece of work you've mastered.
Words fail me... because you've used up all the good ones.
And, I wish there was something I could say to assure you of our debt to you.
Damn! He was a sonovabitch - pain-in-the-ass! ! ! ! !

Aberjhani always says it best.
And then Sage gives it a perfect second chorus.

Damn those folks are good.

You too, kiddo.

Catupults me into a teahouse to hear you read me these genuine lines, Kate...to our shrunken stomachs lean on authentic, marketable words lately, this literary spread takes on the appearance of a banquet. For Him Who Rails At Beauty is a staggering achievement of making the journey without the loss of life, but some things are meant to die...the life, death, rebirth cycle...Sci-Fi lives! Earl Grey to ya, Kate...

Quite a powerhouse write: every line like a living machine gun firing bitter truth and dark prophecy. A feast of metaphysical food for thought.
