George was tending my Mother's grave yesterday afternoon and came up with this! He came back and sang it to me, played on guitar... kinda Leonard Cohen-esque. Actually, he's very into the Romantics, especially Byron. Thank you for your comments - George will respond! :))

CLIPPING HOLLY
by George

Clipping holly
Shaving grass
All part of some
Last, but indefinite song

Flute-like whistle
Of the few birds
Melts with the light
Into the pink honey sky

Idyllic scene
Industrious love

In aught we do
We do for you

Bright bulbs pushing through
Fresh shorn grass
Snow drops
Dew and tears

The scene is changed
The sorrow all but gone
Remaining: our
Sad and lonely song

Sung by me
To set you free

So touching, Kate!
Isn't it something how even an ordinary event can "set off" the poet or the songwriter? God's precious gift to us...that "inspiration," that gives us our very breath and movement.
BTW...my dear...I chuckled over your suggestion that I go sleep in my flower bed...or soak in the birdbath...as a 'reward' for my garden labors. You know what? I DID...nap amongst the budding spring blooms, on a long, green sun-warmed bench...Thank you, Dr. Burnside :^)

... OK... you've indulged me! :)) I will try to get G to record the song on mp3 and post it, together with his pic... He's becoming quite the Babe! Now I know he won't, cos I've gone and said that... But shucks... A mother's got to have some pay-back, after all... LOL K xx And thanks for all the encouraging feedback. xoxox

And, sorry... for the uninitiated, George is my 17-yr old son.

More meaninful and lovely words for mourning do not exist.
All of your poem is as "Heavenly" as mortals need achieve.
I will remember the two lines, above, next week while visitng the grave and marker of my long-time wed mate. I'm indebted to you.
You and George really bring it home, Dear Friend. Thanks much.
