THE POTTER

I feel him now,
hands smooth as pebbles
that dream clear-eyed
beneath sullen, brackish waters;

fingers brown as ferrous soil
that silts the heathland stream.

My every lip and curve
he shaped from warmly
melting coils;

each subtle glaze
he colour-tipped
then blazed to
burnished brilliance.

Even now he can fashion
my exact likeness from west winds;

and in its muscled memory,
my compliant clay still yields
to his tender, transforming touch.

Nice poem Kate....the potter can mold beauty from the product of clay...to be able to see the other side of being molded is a gift in itself...one must allow for the hands to become the source of creation so as to behold the creative potter and his work...I bet even the winds can mold, as so the source of our souls for we are molded by the greatest of Creators...

The Potter of our Souls...

From the most basic simplicities, comes beauty--unfathomably rich...

I love the sounds this piece makes. There are subtle rhymes and alliterations within it that make it liltingly lovely. My favorite too, is "fingers brown as ferrous soil" --love the repeated f's and r-s sounds in that. I also love how my mind falls hard on the "blazed" after having read
"each subtle glaze
he clour-tipped
then blazed..." and then you lead us out of that inner rhyme with "to
burnished brilliance." --the perfect amount of syllables in iambs.

I love your creations too, Kate--you potter of poetry, you. --Charlie

Pygmalion? Kate? I thought that you were the artist ready to shape her work of art... :)
Such lovely sounds and visuals in:"each subtle glaze
he colour-tipped
then blazed to
burnished brilliance."

Kate, you have moulded a poem here, all right.

There is fine clay and artistry at work in your poem.

Pottery, poetry and passion have come together in a piece of west country romance.

Lovely and skillful; this piece is best read aloud so that the tongue can roll over your beautiful word choices. I love the sensuality of this that so seamlessly and artfully melds with the emotion and passion that propels this poem into the very core of the reader.
