... obviously written at least ten days' ago! Cheat! :)) xx

We grow heavy on dull hours:

our saturated sunrise
crackles and spits in the
pan-handle fade-out of stars,
milking a full-fat morning;

lethargic elevenses, idly
sucking on cream-filled eggs,
hatch into an early-bird
five-course lunch.

Then a luxury of leisure –
seconds of simnel cake
and minute apple scones –
calls time-out from
green, manicured lawns
at two-for-tea

while, later,
a hand of bananas
wards off pre-supper pangs

before a white-starched evening
sinks its fangs into the juicy,
rare satisfaction of an indolent
dinner’s forking and feasting,

picking over the bones,
chewing the fat of yet another
time-crunching day.

I don't think weight watchers would approve of this diet. On the other hand I don't approve of theirs. Love the last stanza. patrick

I suppose some people's lives are measured by the three meals each day. Like dramatic adventures we are barely finished with one before we begin thinking of the next one....

Deliciously thought-inciting, Kate. You have me feeling time brush past my face as I close my eyes. Love and best wishes,

I love this little paint-by-number number. I love especially the imagery of your "white-starched evening" and your "cream-filled eggs." Delicious. --Charlie

I ate at you bountiful supper and am full for the night and are not those moments of leisure worth a second look when your ass is dragging and hoping for a good nights sleep?

subsistence level never played the game of fun and reckless abandon -- and time never considered crunches, nothing less than eras and mindless rear view mirrors for assessments -- loved it Kate -- peace and love be with you my dear friend -- Jon Michael

A day I'll have any day, Kate, full of mouth-water and savour, a hedonistic indulgence that stops short of overdoing and vulgarity...and that philosophical touch at the end puts it all in perspective.

I had a better diet, lost 120 pounds in a week or so of diabetic coma, though I wouldn't recommend it to anyone...but this diet here I might put forth to others...e

Hmnnnnn sounds like my kind of diet if you ask me but then my cardioligist would ruin it all by saying something silly like reduce cholesterol. Enjoyed Kate...
