FIRST BATH, POST-OPERATIVE

Limbs bud bruise-hued

Monet clouds and water lilies;

russet-hair weed floats

half my length, like Shalott.

Wrinkled palms are shooting

stars, five-fingered fish

combing the whorls.

Foetal, I roll in bubbles upwards

from the white ceramic bed,

spout a tessellated Moby.

An aquarium

of softly-fanning tails

and striped thoughts

electric in colour

mouth their pretty Os,

come quietly to kiss

a healing benediction.

Somewhere beyond

there’s enquiry, gazing;

a gentle tapping on my glass.

Is it possible you've gotten even more amazing than when I left on sabbatical? This is crazy good writing; you leave me shaking my head in disbelief and green with envy. Ever your fan . . .

Pierre Bonnard would be the man to paint this bath of beautiful ache.
I can see you as a lonzenge of light, turquoise and pink. Hope all your atoms are united in Defence of Your Realm, Kate! May Science and Art come together to bless you with their healing powers. Best wishes, kenny

There is nothing quite like the freedom felt at a first bath or shower after surgery! My daughter had her spine fused in October and I know how happy she was to be able to have her first shower after two weeks. :~)
In your poem you have given life to the mundane and reminded us to not take for granted the ordinary things of life.
Hope all is well in your world.

Cryssa :~)

Kate,
I'm with Jon; I'm fascinated by the ending on this piece. Reminds me of my 4 days in the hospital after back surgery, because I sure did feel poked and prodded (under a microscope). I swore if one more person looked at the stitches on my belly (that's where they went in) I was going to raise heck. lol. Wishing you well. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

i'll send you some mr. bubble if you'd like. it makes the day go faster depending on what you do with it. you've rekindled my interest in bathing, for which many around me will be thankful. i liked this poem a lot, emotive imagery to settle and bathe in, washes over the skin like warm water, soothing to the soul. take care.

Shall I sum up my concotion of mysterious images evolving from the verses you have coasted upon my mind with such a beautiful write as this? Monet could not have painted a more beautiful portrait full circle in this container...a tub as if filled with champagne in celebration. Pure genius.

It is the "somewhere from beyond there's enquiry, gazing; gentle tapping on your glass" that has me intrigued with speculation Kate. The personal encounter, physical and psychological with soothing bath water is a special event in our twice or thrice daily routine terms. Yet when it marks a time line as part of the healing process it carries a significantly different weight, meaning and value. Let the warm touch of the water reintroduce you to the pleasures of the mundane, yet soothing world of normalcy. The "white ceramic bed" is your place of deserved seclusion to commune again with the simple pleasures. Glad the healing is coming along without a hitch Kate. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. The Lady Bathes...impressionably,
and spouts "...a tessellated Moby"
what a cracking picture!
and in the goldfish bowl of poetry
she is exceptional and brilliant.

Kate, your surgery did nothing to harm your creative juices, thank God!
I'm so glad all went well for you, but I feel mystified not knowing what you had done. I went through most of your recent poems to find out and saw nothing. So I'm just praying that all will continue to be healed and you'll be on to your next adventure, soon! Your imagery is so enchanting, you amaze!;-)

Love and hugs,
Eileen

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
