Summer has hit the British Isles bigtime but I have spent this most glorious weekend in and out of fevered sleep labouring under some mystery virus. Ho-hum. Am also playing catch-up with NaPoWriMos 1-10, which I won't be inflicting on you this year, so phews all round! Back soon... xx

THEORY AND ISMS

Big Band Theory

The orchestra was tuned,

we saw that it was good –

so who fired the conductor?

Fundamental

We swim to begin,

fly when we die;

between there’s gravity

of hob-nailed boots and

hydrogen of dancing.

Darwinian

In socks and sandals

fresh from the sea,

lobster-like and bloated:

De-volution.

Extra-terrestrialism

They nest in wheat fields of my mind.  I feel their

curled, sleeping weight bend its fragile stalks.

Running along moonlit lay-lines, they form circles

and stand on hind legs, shadows tall as Stonehenge.

I know which thoughts are theirs: eyes coal-bright,

whiskers twigs of twitching hazel.

Twin Flames

Altar candles burn.

Millennial hope a moth

cremated by towering infernos.

Ultimism

Is it love that walks you

to the end of the world

and then says jump?

Optimism

Perhaps there is anger in old bones –

and disease as well as evil;

but surely love thickens soft flesh

and untaints fresh blood knitting the new?

H2O

Fluid particles, flowing together but apart,

we are the agents for change

energies of our shared journey make us.

I love this last one Kate, and it is so true too. These are all good and really you do have a message here. Thank you for sharing.

I love these... I especially loved your thoughts on extra-terrestrialism... The thoughts that lie nestled in the wheat fields of my mind are many and at times their shadows make me want to hide, their sleeping weight is sometimes easier to bear than the running in circles they do, though. :~)

Your thoughts always kindle a smile.

Oh, some wonderful sense of humor: a lively, witty piece of writing this is. It's also a brilliant exercise, (the kind that I would certainly try), a way of thinking out of that gray box. Darwinism, love the picture you paint! And so many visions and emotions fill my inner world, when I read these two captivating lines: "Millennial hope a moth /cremated by towering infernos.

I'm sorry about that virus Kate, but one thing is sure: it hasn't affected your brilliant neurons!

Wish we lived closer. Maybe some of this brilliance would infuse me through some sort of strange osmosis. I am in complete agreement with Andy's first two sentences.

Kate, I hope that you are fully recovered my dear friend. I am very partial to all of these. However, most favored with me is, H2O. A marvelous little metaphor and quite a philosophical ditty at that. "whiskers twigs of twitching hazel" is a tongue twisting beauty of a line creative and wonderful. Be well and stay well. I bid you love and peace. Jon Michael

Flip in heck girl. You are beyond brilliant.
Rare, can anyone comprehend such matters, let alone articulate them in so many stunning ways.
Indeed, water never gives up, and, should it be blocked by an obstacle it will find a new route. Moving water is always fresh. Such a metaphor is true about your poetry and many talents that you're gifted with! xx

What a great idea, this! And your blip about Na Po Wri Mo, I couldn't agree more! (coming from a writer's point of view, not a reader's)-- what a way to wash you out from the ganas to write poetry. Still, you did very well on this one.

Of course my favorite is your Extra-terrestrialism part because its the one with the sink-your-soul-into-them images that send goose-bumps up my arms--immaculate. But I also loved your De-volution. I'd turn into a fish myself (if I'd only learn how to swim), wet sand beneath your soles, and warm, lapping water at your toes-- who could resist. Anyways, nice to hear/read your writes again. --Charlie

you know, this is really an incredible piece. especially like the alien bit, crop circles, lay-lines, STONEHENGE, and let's not forget the Georgia Guidestones whilst we're at it...theories and isms, brainfood for a planet gone mad. ISM? (I- Self- Me??). this is wonderfully creative and your talented pen is really having fun here.

I liked Extra-terrestrialism the best on first reading; it's cause I'm a bug-eyed misfit myself in the human scheme of things, got that Martian point of view holding me back from advancement in human affairs... haha, seriously, another pou-pourri of extra-special poetry from Our Lady of the Verses! ken

Secondly, I had a feeling you were under the weather. You were gone way too long.
It's good to read you again, my dearest friend.
Be well and continue to write with that beautiful heart of yours.

Hah! Optimism is my choice, if we can single out any one of them, Kate. The old bones, re, knotting new blood sorta made my day. Darwin, yeah, yeah, yip-yip-to-do too. This is a new concept from your pen I've not seen, and I completely understand and agree with your ism's. Darn tootin'.

Get well soon, or if not that, stay stoned on NyQuil.
