I have found that those who make it to the top become targets for those who haven't, even though those who haven't are also trying to do so, and if they ever do, they too become targets for those who haven't. Seems like a catch-22 in ways. Perhaps it's just a war of attrition - snobbery vs. jealousy.
Now "the top" to me is a relative phrase. Depending on what one sees as success I would imagine. Looking down on anyone, no matter how much success you attain, is wrong.
