I wanted to thank you for the lovely comment Sharon on "A Poem", and also say that this piece of yours here is so very true and touching. Reminds me a bit of the short story I wrote "The Bum". Have you ever read, I believe it is called, Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell? That's probably the most telling read I have ever read speaking of there side of the story...

They say that the eyes are the window of the soul. Eyes never change but we and the rest of our bodies do. The eye is like an enduring sentinal patiently overseeing all these changes. There is of course the spiritual eye that looks deeper into the soul - this is the focus that ought to make us more alert to our true condition.

Not for self praise: oftentimes i do, last time was over the pond at grand central NY, he was an ex nam, needing ex amout to go sleep somewhere, he was legit as the sally ally said.
But I looked up and said to the peeps passing, this is a human, treat him with dignity. Then I ran off with his change..naaaa. He got his place for that cold night..
This is heart wrenching, Sharon, and you've asked some very good questions -- you have a tender and overflowing heart, my friend. I guess our lives have all gotten so complicated and rushed. We should take the time to look and really 'see' those around us who are not as fortunate. Thank you for pointing this out. Well done.
