If I had known it would be the last
The peppermint brownies from my past
The sugar cone with chocolate chip
My lips that delicacy wouldn’t slip
The hugs my son so gladly gave
The friend’s invitation that I delayed
My mother’s stories told just to me
I would not say mother quiet please
Now standing here beside the veil
I watch others lose life to no avail
Reaching to them does go unseen
If I had my body my tears would gleam
But judgement comes too soon it seems
To waste life’s loves and hidden dreams
Love much, eat well, and help another
Make time for friends, sisters and brothers
