He steers a steady path through the canyon
Slanting sun rising over the ridge
The solitary cowboy riding high in the saddle
Worn stetson tucked down over his brow
Thoughts come and go in a changing world
The horse is obsolete on the streets of LA
No place left to hitch up and cool
Spurs on boots, a bygone deal
Redundant cowboy lost on the sidewalk
Reminisces of campfires and six shooter days
Riding shotgun,
Lancaster’s blazing,
No one messed with the Tombstone cowboy
Teeming buffalo roamed the wild prairies
Countless numbers as far as the eye could see
Indian braves in painted war faces
Hunted and stalked in raiding parties
Desert sands painted a bleak landscape
Tumbleweeds and cacti dotted the terrain
While the lonesome cowboy polished his gun
Cleaning both barrels with professional care
He doesn’t give a damn for the modern world
Just happy to draw on another nicotine puff
Values come, and values go
But integrity remains in the cowpoke’s heart
He knows his worth is not weighed in gold
Rather still, it’s the feeling in his soul
Free as a hawk
Wild as a bronco
Cool hand Luke
Never beaten to the draw
He straps on his holster
It’s the only world he knows

Very nice! And I'm a western writer, so a good judge of cowboy art. I'd say you've sat a saddle a time or two yourself! Well done.

Hey Peter! Nice to have you
back! I have been away myself.
LONG story! Nice ending of "Cowboy".
I like to think of myself as a "Tomboy"~!
We have horses down here in Texas~!
Love to you,

I think there's a little bit of "cowboy or cowgirl" in us. This splendid write takes my mind back. I love a good cowboy movie. Thanks for sharing this with us. Good to see you back!
Amazingly vivid and atmospheric write, Peter, and effortlessly done. You select just the right telling detail to bring this character to life, and the juxtaposition of the two worlds is a fantastic idea; could almost be the opening scene to some great movie... it certainly captivates, inspires and thrills our expectation. I would love to see a sequel to this. I'm intrigued!! An uplifting write, thank you. Kate xx
I actually have thought about how wonderful it would be in the western world when everyone had a horse to himself/herself. Horse-drawn carriage did not need gas to run. I often wondered if there would be a time in the future that we go back to the lifestyle of the past, for they certainly are more simple, but was a lot more interesting.
This evokes memories of the good old days, when the West was wild and men were free...sigghhhh! to bring back those times. :) Chivalry and honor still stood for something--
A pleasure to take in your well written piece this afternoon, Pardner! Enjoyed VERY much.
Major League ballplayer Justin Moore is kidnapped from his own ballpark and transported to a foreign land. It might take high-level international negotiations to free him. Or maybe he will take matters into his own hands.
The gifted and fascinating Urban Poet, Asa D Seeley, once again speaks. He introduces a New Genre of Poetry...Reality Confrontation. Juxtaposed with Essay and staying true to his unique style, Asa brings a breath of...fresh air...to the world of poet
