Head hung in shame.
Violent voice from the past
jumbling in my weary thoughts.
Auburn curls cling to soft cheeks,
Eyelids shuttered, concealing
haunted blue-grey eyes.
Lush lips pulled into
a pout of sadness, despair.
Words echoing; ugly, fat,
stupid, worthless, nobody.
Feeling of self-doubt creeps in,
self-contempt burrowing into
a psyche corrupted by hateful words...
Slender fingers stroke soft cheeks,
brushing through auburn curls,
coaxing blue-grey eyes
to open and see.
Gentle voice whispers
one word, one kindness,
Beautiful
and it burns away all others
still lingering.
