I think it's funny how when you're in a bad relationship for a while and FINALLY start to date again that everything a man says seems to sound like a come-on. How odd is it that liberating one's self from a bad situation can bring on such feelings of self-doubt? This is just one experience I had with a rather nice guy that I assumed was just looking for a nice evening, so to speak.

His voice whispers
softly in my ear,
asking quietly that
I listen to his words.
Strong hands stroke my
hair, brushing across
skin that flinches
at the caress.
Words fill my head
as he speaks of my
lips, their plump
tempting curve and
of my eyes with their
sultry slant and
ever-changing hue.
How the curl of
my tresses invite his
fingers to touch,
how the softness of my
skin entices him to savor.
Words spoken to incite
pleasure coinciding with
a frission of doubt...
I desire to push it
and him away,
these things that are
spoken of are merely
the characteristics of
my face that tell nothing of
attraction to ME.
His words bring vivid
memories of one that was
cast away not so long ago,
one whose words seduced
as his hands bruised
both body and heart.
A gentle voice brings
me back to the present,
I hear him speak of admiration
of my courage to move
ahead, to continue the
trek though I've stumbled,
my ability to express
with paint things
that could never be spoken.
I've not been listening,
lost the thread of the
conversation, but admit
that perhaps I was wrong to
judge him so quickly.
Not everyone stops
looking at just the
comely face as some have
in the past, but I have to
remember to allow those
who would look the chance
to see what's beneath
my skin.

Hard to trust again and let yourself fall in love, after having had a bad experience.
This was quite something. Was that the only evening or did you continue dating him?
Hehe - love Tinka's comment.

I've fished in different types of ponds and lots of the fish are scummy. ;-) But you're right, Danielle, we carry baggage from past relationships that makes us jump to conclusions sometimes. We may cast away a keeper or two from fear.

Well done.

Danielle, judge not all men by the idiocy of a few. No reflection on you personally, but I often notice the type of guy is often reflected by the pond one fishes in. You fish for bottom feeders and that's what you get. You fish for the intellectual type and they're harder to catch. You fish for the caring type, they're extremely hard to land. But they will satisfy your fiil for love much longer

I thought everything a man says was a come-on. Hmmm... ok. Nicely done.
