I gaze up at
the stars set in
their blue-black canvas
flirting with the pale
moon in a sky
unmarred by clouds
Silence resonates at
this hour of night
The children have drifted
off to dream of chasing
butterflies and riding
ponies on the farm
I sit and appreciate the
quiet that has set in
as I watch those celestial
lights twinkling above
feeling the cool autumn
wind blowing through my hair
a pencil and sketchpad
at my side
and for a few minutes
I get to be just me
