A Flight of Fancy: Flying High
(a mythological moment)

Riding the Winged Horse, Pegasus by name,

I set out to slay my foe, as though it were a game.

The gods frown upon such derring-do, they think me bold.

I care not, for I know: I won't get old.

As Pegasus soars above the clouds so high I never look back,

never wonder why

Destiny strikes blow after blow

'Tis not for a mortal to know.

I bend beneath the breeze,

softly fanning my face,

as Pegasus, with a tiny sneeze,

gives the demons a merry race.

My sword gleams,

I raise it high.

Dragon fire steams

I slash the beast's thigh.

My winged horse turns on a hoof

swiftly, assured, forever aloof.

I pierce the dragon's heart...

victory is mine, and we depart.

Flying on towards the moon,

to repose in Selena's arms soon,

I shed a tear,

I weep, for once again

I gave my life in my horse's keep.

The Gods -- they envy me.

In Pegasus, they truly see

the loyalty and love they lack,

by the bye.

We defy them all,

Pegasus and I.

This is a great fantasy piece. I read it out loud and it has a mystical rhythm to the timing of your prose. This added tremendous color and style to your poem. This is an excellent example of expressive poetry.

Such union of myth that can be transcended into reality. I felt this of having someone by my side that I can confide; support through the trials of life------A Friend. Also, with this poetry of myth it was concise without the usual overly done detail. Love it!

This was pleasantly surprising. I'm always fearful of fantasy poetry because itusually gets lost in lofty descriptions of nothing. But not this one. Ya pulled it off nicely, causing me to WANT to read "An Angel's Kiss." (Anything with "angel" in it worries me...it might be a Hallmark Card!)

Great to see somebody using classical myth as a source of metaphor. Too much modern poetry is DIY psychology. loved this.
