There's an oldie tune swirling through my mind

"I'm still standing" Yeah yeah yeah...

I'm still standing all right

Even if I sit down quite often

Hell, even if I flop flat on the floor

To stay until duty drags me up

Even if I resort to caffeine to keep going

I really am still standing

Why? you might ask: Why persevere?

Why endure?

Why duck low again and again

When the storms keeping rolling?

When the punches keep coming

When the disasters strike

When the end never looks lighter?

Because -- I realized some years ago

Because, this is it!

This is life

This is my life

And yes, I want to live it

After all There's the sky, so blue

The moon guarding my midnight

There's the sky so blue

The sun gilding my noontime

There are trees Crippled by ice storms

Bereft of new leaf by more ice yet

Dried and thirsting

But renewing

Giving fresh air

Harboring birds and wildlife

Casting shade with benevolence

Withstanding the next storm

There are soft winds Breezes so gentle

There are thunder claps

Lightning strikes

And the rainbows I create

Washing the car in sunshine

There is music

The beat

The roll

The melody

What could be more enlivening?

There are thoughts and words

And the cat's meow!

There are smiles you bring to me

With your poems and reviews

There are kindred souls out there

And yours is one

There are dear ones

Whose sufferings echo mine

And who -- are still standing!

So, if hardship strikes you

And doesn't let go

And your soul weeps

Your heart aches and

Yearnings seem futile

Please remember this:

Shut out the world

Shut out the clutter

The clatter

And tell yourself:

Right now, I am all right

And yes, I'm still standing!
