In the smile, not the frown

When one hasn’t the ability

To fetch or gather

Make, create, not even a food platter

When the mind is fully functional

Yet the body is disruptional

It’s amazing the position

One is placed in

Under the hands of caring others

Needs are met

As one discovers

Interrelatedness in new degrees

Unable to live without another

For reasons no way romantic

One might feel disposable

May even think it deplorable

To be at the whim of others

Yet trust is found

In the smile, not the frown

Within the soft word spoken

Embedded in soothing tone

Ensuring one is not too troublesome

Not a heavy burden to sink a ship

Instead love rides the waves of disrepair

Disguised in action, effort, even when it causes despair

We don’t know why life brings such adversities

Seemingly more to some, less to others

The simple truth is we really don’t know

The wisest interpretation one can make

Is to honour and trust our mysterious life

Given to learn, to love, and help humans become kind

Great message and wisdom contained in here...I'm usually surprised at those who say: "Why me?" My answer is: "Why not you?" Suzie, earthly life is a package of trials, this is not it...thank you for your deep perception.

It could go the opposite way too-body functional but mind disruptional, as in my son who is autistic. So easy to be hard or just ignore a person with a handicap, mental or physical. What my son has taught me is that imperfection can be beautiful. As is this write. Thank you, Suzie!

I Think we all need to try to experience a little more reality and a little less taking life for granted. Excellent write. Pierre.

Nice wordflow here with a sinister kick in the middle of the poem, but love comes through all of the stated adversity. I can empathize to a point, but I am afraid that I turned more cynical with the passing of time. You are to be commended for your desire to find love even though the road is a tough one.

I trusted the smile of someone who claimed to be a friend. But her heart was as black as the coal, in the coal bin. She had such a devious mind, and acted so selfishly, that I lost 5½ years of my life to misery and sadness, literally crying everyday to be freed from an unjust imprisonment, in a childrens institution, for which I had done nothing to be placed there. MY mother, was not a decent person, because when she had me, she tried and tried to make the situation right. When my sister Angela was born in 1959, my mother schemed and schemed to get rid of me, and finally two years succeeded. What loving mother signs away her parental rights for a child, that has done nothing wrong, but be herself? I'd like to teach the world to sing, maybe then, we can be a society.

But I agree with Felix on this too. It seems that living by adversity is what makes most people feel so alive. For me, I enjoy the simple things in life, the beauty of Mother Nature and her creatures, who are so brightly colored and happy, going bowling, having candlelight dinners, dancing, cuddling up next someone very special (if I could ever find him), and watching nice movies, like last night I watched the last half of the Bells of St. Mary's, with Bing Crosby and Ingrid Bergman. This is a very good write Suzie. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whome you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, stubborn and determined to a fault, joy to the world, peace on earth & (((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your very sad and terrified little sister, Barbie

This is an exceptional write and it is also a great philospy to live and love by.Adversity whether we like to admit or not is also what lets us see the opposite when it comes along. LIke love is to hate or beauty is to ugly. Great write my young lady friend hope you enjoy the holiday season.

Hugs,
Felix

This is an inside look at the level of human compassion and empathy to those who have challenging disabilities. I have explored the unkind nature of adversity through my story poem, The Brand.

It is highly important for those of us who function normally, both mentally and physically to give the less fortunate the "time of day." We need to give these ones a clearcut impression, a smile to ensure sufficient harmony so the interaction with these people can be sustained, and not insult them, but to be there for them voluntarily in the accordance of our own kind, humane plan.

I trust and find a smile in this write, Suzie.
