I could not include a photo of this unwilling subject...not that it would have mattered, for each time it has revealed itself its taken a different form....Tis the season :)

A warning to all bards and poets
And artists of all kinds
The muse that gives you vision
May be a demon in disguise

An idle thought its open door
No invite does it need
To manifest inside your soul
And spread its evil seed

This demon does have many eyes
It watches and it waits
It may seem quite harmless
Until you become its prey

It works itself into your mind
Then you begin the change
And plunge into the darkness
So beautiful and strange

But the beauty, it is fleeting
As your flesh is torn and burned
Your soul provides the nourishment
As the Dark Son reaches birth

Heed these words, be wary
Of the muses in your lives
For the wisest have been fooled

By this demon in disguise

Ed, good write and true, those demons in disguise can look like the muse at times.

The best thing about my muse is the demonic side. Beware of what we ask for...

Wish my muse would work at all today, let alone it being evil, that I already knew...Ed

Methinks your muse pulled an April Fools joke on ya. Uh, huh. What the muse does (and I know the muse, and the muse us us) is steady our hand, clear our thoughts (outside the box, Ted) and enable us to throw words together that make perfectly good sense to us, nay, maybe even be genesis. Evil? Sometimes. Artful? Hardly ever. Beautiful? Who's to say? I feel that we rely far to much on the "muse." It gives us the chance to say to an uncaring public, "I cannot write today, my muse has left the building."

Edwin,
Another excellent write. Your rhyme and flow were outstanding. The subject matter goes well with the season but can apply to anytime. Much of poetry is written from inspiration supplied by the demons in our lives. Very well done.
