It's not lovely anymore,
this comfort that has held me,
when I cried out.
This fate,
that has dispelled me
when I lied in doubt.
It's not wonderful anymore,
this life that has known the good in me
and yet given me up for dead.
This pain,
that has consumed me
and filled me up with dread.
Should I try to fool myself,
should I break myself again,
into pieces bound to searching
for the love I've never known?
Should I hold myself,
should I touch myself again?
Maybe then I can remember
how it feels to have a true friend.
It's not joy in my future anymore
that I can see.
Should I yet force myself to believe,
there's still someone out there
lonely,
reaching out to try to find
someone like me.

Pierre,
I've always believed there is somebody out there for everybody. And as sad as it is, sometimes, they are never found, but then, if and when they are, it's warmth on a cold day, that we find ourselves in, when they finally wrap their arms around us.
Never give up, and always be opened to any and all possibilities. Who knows? Maybe today is the day!
Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
