Teach me
how to walk with you
just softly enough
not to step on you
yet firmly enough
to carry my own weight.
Show me
how to talk to you
quietly enough
not to scare you
yet loud enough
for you to hear.
Hold me
if you will
loosely enough
to allow me to breathe
yet tightly enough
to feel me near.
Give me
the chance to try
to take you up life's hill
far enough
for you to see
that where we stand is high enough
to conquer our own fate.
