~Who Am I~

Which speck within the void
carries my very essence
the entity that will be known as me
what out there holds my presence
~~~
Was I born before the wind
and conceived before time
Searching the universe for answers
to questions I've yet to find
~~~
Am I a star that will go suddenly nova
then will disappear high in the night
Or an ember that glows brightest
just before vanishing out of sight
~~~
Am I an illusion, mirage or fallacy
or a dream that someone had
Is it all done with smoke and mirrors
will the answers make me sad
~~~
Could I be another streaking meteor
as across the sky I soar
Or that bright twinkle in a star
that burned out a thousand years before
~~~
I know I am an old soul
from some ancient forgotten place
Who keeps returning again and again
through the mists of time and space
~~~
So each time the universe tilts
and the planets are all aligned
Will I be that unknown anomaly
passing through one more time
~~~
Dear Carole,
I was not part of the Den when you wrote this beautiful poem, but after reading you, I ask myself if you are still asking these legitimate questions. That you are an old soul, I agree with you. I am too. However, I don’t believe that YOU keep returning on earth. What you feel has been active on earth before you. Continue working on yourself, and praying inside yourself, in perfect silence, with your own words, you will realize that we are not only “matter” but an eternal spark on its journey. While on earth we are still attached to our origin by a silver thread. We are never alone. I wish I could write like you.
Absolutely stunning, Carole!! One of the best IMO that you've written, among a plethora of wonderful writes. I've written about Old Souls, too. Well-done.
This makes me think of my son, age 14, who said to me last night, "Mom, I don't know who I am." I explained to him that that's normal for his age and didn't have the heart to tell him that it's a question that comes to us periodically until we are whole and some of us are never whole. I told him he'd have a clearer picture of who he is as he gets older, but few people know who they are at age 14. I know your poem is much deeper than that. :-) Good poem, Carole.
This is a constellation glowing, dropping brilliant cut diamonds on
on the prairies of creation. "Who Am I" is a protean depicting of One that knows the mystery of Time.
I salute You, Poet!
An exquisite meditation on the nature of cosmic identity and destiny. In these lines the voice of the poet expands to echo that of the univese, creating a small glorious symphony of self and higher self. The sounds and sights and meanings are beautiful to experience.
Carole this is one of your best! A scintillating meta physical poem that asks those timeless questions we would all love to know the answer to. It is perfectly written, an outstanding piece! Kudo's!
