*~ Vietnam Legacy ~* *A wall of granite tells a tale* *of heroes who never returned* *their names, engraved one by one* *and the ranks they earned* *The families all come* *touching with trembling hands* *the names they loved so well* *While their buddies only remember* *their months of a living hell* *Sadly all these memories* *become nightmares they can�t shake* *Reliving all the horrors* *is more than they can take* *They went to war as children* *not schooled in killing then* *and some came home to loved ones* *as hardened and broken men* *They were no parades or speeches* *no laureate creating poems* *there were no dignitaries greeting them* *as they came marching home* *Now, many years have come and gone* *for many, their lives destroyed* *Minds stuck in a time warp* *where some drink to fill the void* *To all the valiant young* *who lived the horror somehow* *they deserve more than our* *respect and compassion now* *� 2006* *Carole Mathys*

Written with so much passion
this was a beautiful write Carole
Thanks for sharing
I vist the wall myself
And I knew tears were going to fall
as I walked closer to the wall
I tried my best to hold them back
But to no avail, the flowed betwenn sobs
As my hands touched the cold granite
That immortalizes them.

Yes, this one hurts all right...
Our brave and strong sons going off
to fight and only some come back...
but broken and torn...
Very educative Carole...and I believe
that if the entire
world reads this and understand the
powerful message here, then the
need to fight will simply disappear...

You know Sis Carole, if ANYONE deserves to live in this nation with free medical care and life insurance for the rest of their lives, it should be the families of service people whose names are on that wall, not the political elite who sent them to fight before they understood the power of peace.

This enduring epitaph says it all, as do your words which go on to elaborate on the stoicism and endurance of heros with unsentimental honesty, conferring on them the respect and dignity they deserve.
